Thread: Nvidia Driver

  1. Default Nvidia Driver

I've got a M200 with a GeForce FX Go5200 video card running on xp and I cannot run a few programs due to this outdated driver, will toshiba update this? Unless I'm mistaken, the newest one is from the year 2005 which is upsetting.

    This BS!

Edit* Forgot to mention that i have version 46.44. On the website, i goes to like 175 but i cant install it. Heres where i download my drivers.

the latest ones I use are 80.40

you have to modify the inf file.......weird I cannot find the appropriate posts by awegno, but the gist is look for "RotateFlag" in the nv4_disp.inf and change it's value from 4 to 0x40

You can pretty much use any of the drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com

I have never used drivers with a version larger than 95.XX so your mileage may vary.

Also, make sure you have the latest rotation utility to reinstall it from toshiba....

I changed the inf file but still could not get it to install. Could you create a small walkthrough for me?

    THanks

OK, here is what I would do:

    1. download the driver by clicking the "driver" link at the top o the page you linked to. (or directly here) save it to your desktop
    2. right click on the "modded inf" link at the top, (or here) and select "save link as" from the menu(this is for firefox, for IE do "save target as") and save the file to your desktop so you can find it easy. This will create a file on your desktop called "nv4_disp.inf"
    3. run the 8040.exe you downloaded in step 1. IT will ask you where to save it. I keep what it has(path to your desktop)
    4. open nv4_disp.inf in notepad by right clicking on it and doing an "Open with" and then choosing notepad.
    5. From the notepad menu choose Edit -> Find...
put "RotateFlag" without the quotes in the find box and hit "Find Next"
    6. you will now be on a line that looks like this:
    HKR,, RotateFlag, %REG_DWORD%, 4
    7. change it to look like this:
    HKR,, RotateFlag, %REG_DWORD%, 0x40
    8. now save and exit notepad.
    9. move the nv4_disp.inf on your desktop into the 8040 folder.
    10. run the setup.exe in the 8040 folder.
    11. enjoy and shower me with praise in the form of large us currency. :D

    Hope this helps....

I just have not tried it. In point of fact I have had my m200 on the shelf for the last few months. I got a new laptop(Sager 7952) and have not needed the toshiba out for a while. (Yes, I posted those instructions from memory!)

Most of the 100+ drivers are geared toward the newer vid cards, and I think there is a diminishing return after the 80 series. You could try one and let us know, just follow the directions above and it should work.
Remember though, your mileage may vary, objects in mirror are closer than they look, and past returns are no guarantee of future results. :D

    Thumbs up

Well this thread inspired me and I have dusted off my m200 and installed the 179.13 drivers using the instructions above. All seems well so far...
....famous last words.....seems I have no driver installed? Hmmm.....now I need to go back and see what I did wrong. lol

well the 179 drivers for some reason do NOT work and cause the power saver util to burn on launch as well....heh

I reverted back to 80.40, now I have no issues....

looks like this one should have support for the 5200. I will try it later and let everyone know:

OK, it looks like that one does not work either.......80.40 for me then. :)
