Thread: Will a ST5111 run this software?

Default Will a ST5111 run this software?

Hi I've just purchased an ST5111 Fujitsu tablet. A lot of my software works fine
with it, but I'm wondering what else I can install in addition to this.

Trouble is that most software seems to use a Pentium 4 as a benchmark, in terms of
its minimum system requirements. I mean, for instance, I know the ST5111 isn't really a gaming device, but I was still wondering whether I could install games, such as Speedball 2, and Bioshock, in addition to the basic applications I use.

Speedball 2 cites a Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz as a minimum system requirement. Is the ST5111's
Core2Duo 1.2GHz anywhere near up to coping with this? Similarly, BioShock has
a Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core as a minimum system specification requirement.

Thing is, is doesn't matter if these games don't run perfectly, but do they stand a chance of working at all? Many thanks for whatever ideas you might have on this, :)

Ok, well plenty of views but no replies so far, so this must either be

    a) a pretty difficult question

    or

    b) a totally stupid question

    that I've asked here ! :)

Thing is, I am a bit confused because I've come across stuff saying that Core Due chips
can sometimes be faster than P4's with twice the clock speed.

Could someone give me a clue: is it just a dud question, or is tricky to answer ?

    LOL, thanks anyway,

No clear cut answer. I don't personally own the tablet but I might shed some light on the topic.
I believe that the ST5111 has integrated Intel graphics. If so it is likely that only games that are not graphics intensive will run acceptably. Most modern games require a fast GPU and so far I have not come across a Intel GPU that is up to the task. Older games may/should run fine. For new games start with the lowest graphics settings and work your way up.

It really is a shame that discreet GPUs have fallen out of favor with tablet makers. My 3.5 year old Acer C314 provides a better Vista Score than a brand new Fujitsu dual core with integrated graphics. The offending component in the fujitsu is the GPU.

Thanks Russ, well at least the clock speed isn't a totally limiting factor!
Shame about the G.P.U., as Intel has made such a big fanfare about it.
Oh well, just have to try it and see, I guess,

    cheers,

sprok: I agree with RussH. The reason that you're not getting any responses is because it requires personal experience with the specific games that you've mentioned. Although there are lots of tablet users out there, most do not think of tablets as gaming machines. Hence, the likelyhood of anyone having tried the games you mention is correspondingly small.

RussH gives good advice, though. Try it with the lowest game settings first, and assuming that works, increase the settings as much as you are able...

    Good luck!

that said, the stylistic core 2 duo runs at around 1.2ghz, is there a software mod that will let you overclock this? or is that a big no-no due to the extra heat produced? willit hurt the tablet?

cheers(appologies if thats a stupid question)
its just that i can run lots of games like GTA san andreas pretty fine on my GMA with 2.0ghz on the core of my /other/ lappy.

The reason it is clocked so low is that it is a Ultra Low Voltage Chip with a very low TDP. Overclocking a chip like this would work with the right software and bring benefits but since the system overall is designed around this very low power very low heat chip it would almost certainly fail due to lack of cooling. It isn't something I would recommend.

Regarding the games you have mentioned, the old P4s clock for clock are nowhere near as fast as a Core 2 duo chip so I would say yes the processor can handle it on low settings, however as RussH said, the intel graphics will probably choke.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on!
