Default [m200] vista + nvidia drivers + rotation

    hi

i've just installed vista with success without DVD drive on my m200 (was a bit hard!)

i'v installed the updated nvidia drivers for vista at toshiba website, and others stuffs... but rotation didn't worked..
so i've installed the old nvidia drivers for XP (46.66 or something else) and some stuff originally for the M400 and now the rotation work... but i wonder if someone has a solution to get rotation working with more recent Nvidia drivers...

    thanks!
    J\'ai faim!

    Warenbe,
I'm not at my regular computer at the moment so I don't have access to my favorites but wnewquay has posted a big piece on mobilepcwiki about upgrading the M200 to vista and has links to the different drivers.
I have it working perfectly on my M200 with the laptopvideotogo.com modified drivers. You have to download the drivers form that site and install a modified inf file to get theings working.
The only problem I have been having is that my backlight tends to stay illuminated after the tablet turns off the screen.
Check a few pages back in the toshiba forums and there is a big thread about upgrading the M200 to Vista. It has lots of good info as well as some links.

    Best Regards,

    David

if you got the drivers from nvidia, you will have to manually edit the inf file in the drivers. the file name is normally nvdisp.inf. Edit it using notepad & search for the entry rotateflag. Make sure the value for the entry is set at 0x40, instead of 0, then manually install the driver, from device manager, pointing it to the newly edited inf.

Also make sure that you have the toshiba rotation drivers installed.

I am using the 97.52 Vista driver provided by toshiba.co.uk, it seems to be the best driver out. Rotation works, no issues with standby, backlight does not stay on when it shouldn't, and it has good performance. If you don't want to mess with editing INFs, try this one.

How does this driver do with Aero glass and resuming from sleep?

Aero Glass works, but only intermittently. It's fine when I first boot up, but after running several apps it reverts back to Vista basic. As far as I can tell, Vista is reducing the amount of system RAM that is allocated to the video card as the apps require it. I've given up on trying to force Glass to run all the time -- none of the tweaks I found online are working.

Resuming from sleep has been absolutely flawless though. I typically go into standby and resume 5-8 times per day. No issues yet.

You have me puzzled here. I've tried many different driver versions including 97.52 from Toshiba Europe, but they all have the same issues:

    1) When the screen turns off to save power, the backlight does NOT turn off. Screen goes blank but backlight stays ON.

    2) When resuming from Standby, the backlight stays OFF. You must use the Fn-F6/F7 shortcuts to change the backlight level manually, which will cause it to come back on.

    3) External display support is problematic although there is a workaround.

Plus a few other minor things, such as the nVidia PowerMizer feature not working and very choppy video playback in WMP.

I'm really surprised that you are not experiencing these issues.

Could you outline what you've installed and how you did it? That would be very helpful.

    Many thanks!

Well, I gotta tell ya I've been through at least six different driver installs before finally settling on 97.52. I'm really surprised my install isn't buggy, I figured there would be "crumbs" left over from the previous installs.

The only thing special that I did is manually uninstall the driver each time before I installed a new one. Here's what I normally do:

Go to 'Program Features' (IIRC) in the Control Panel and uninstall any nVidia entry. Then go to Device Manager and manually uninstall the nVidia driver from there too.

Now restart the computer. Your screen should come up in 640x480. If not, repeat the above steps.

If the New Hardware Wizard pops up, cancel it so it doesn't find the old driver. Double check in Device Manager, your Display Adapter should now be listed as 'Standard VGA Device' or something of the sort (so long as it's not called nVidia GeForce Go5200).

Now proceed to install the 97.52 package. FWIW, I always install from the .inf file with the 'Have Disk' method. It shouldn't affect anything, just throwing it out there.

Hope this works for you! If anything didn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to clarify when I'm more coherent (running on no sleep... ha ha).

Thanks for the info! I'll give that a try but I did fully uninstall just like you on several installations. Never installed with the INF method -- that shouldn't make a difference, but I'll give it a try anyway.

If you go into Device Manager and pull up the properties for the display adapter, then in the Driver tab click on Details, you will see a list of files and version numbers. Could you check whether there might be leftovers that weren't overwritten? I'm wondering whether somehow a fortuitous mix and match might have lead to this.

Otherwise, this is a clean Vista install? using BIOS 1.8?

I'm really jealous! I had pretty much given up and was about to revert to XP when I saw your post.

And I hate to ask this, but you are certain you don't have the issues described above? You're resuming from standby, not hibernate, and you do have the screen configured to turn off? I can't help but remain a little skeptical as you're the first person I've found that reports NOT having these issues!
