M1300 DOA

I returned to my desk today, only to find my M1300 black...alas, it had shut down completely...

Well, I figured it had gone to standby mode because the battery was low. But NO ! No matter what I try, it will NOT REBOOT !!

What do you think !? Bad motherboard !?? I mean, nothin' works to get this baby back up and running...

...I'm about to take out the drive and see if I can't transfer all my stuff to my Vista desktop...jetison the misc. before it's too late...do you htink there's any hope for this machine !??

Thanks in advance...the forum is looking magnificent, by the way...I haven't been online here for quite a while...is tablet computing still a viable entity !?? ...I hope so...

Ok, I'll bump this up a notch...

...does anyone have a reliable source for Motion parts?...anyone stockpiling old units...could use a sweet deal on a motherboard, rather than buying a whole used unit.

My drive is working fine, and fully accessible when taken out of the machine. The batteries charge fine. It's gotta be the motherboard. Are the 1200, 1300 and 1400 motherboards cross compatible ?

Any info would be helpful folks.

Sorry to hear about your loss. If you want to resurrect it, I think eBay is probably the best place to look for parts or for one with a bad screen or something that you could get cheap.

Does the silver power slider button feel especially friction-free? Those plastic buttons are NOTORIOUS for breaking tiny tab inside that slides motherboard power-on switch. No tab, no power-up, period. Take a micro-screwdriver and carefully pry up button from thinnest bottom edge. Just enough to pull away, not fly off! Then use stylus tip to push tiny exposed lever deep inside momentarily downward. With luck, boot will proceed.

Do you mean to remove the slide button, OR to simply work under it ??

My machine died when it was up and running...nothing to do with the switch. Subsequent attempts to reboot flashed a few lights once, twice, maybe three times, and then nothing.

Well I did find that my on-off slide switch was broken, BUT my machine still won't boot. I was able to get access to the interior switch, and power on the machine...alas, that was very short lived because it barely got to the Motion (first shown) screen before shutting down again (maybe 3 or 4 seconds time). I'm still thinkin' motherboard.

Well ok I can't even begin to explain this...I have managed to get my machine to boot. Now I'm thinking it's the power plug...apparently I'm on battery power even when the machine is plugged in. This IS confusing, but also I'm no longer DOA.

...well the power issues with the 1300 (at least my machine) are a bit baffling. The machine will not boot without a battery in place...hooked to the power cord seems to make little difference. Then when up and running, it's hard to tell if the battery is charging...seems that the battery needs to charge out of the machine (in the toaster works ok).

Ah, here's an aside of sorts. These batteries, charged in the toaster, behave differently (as to their level of indicated charge...showing full power when they're nearly dead) once plugged into another M1300. Does each machine somehow imprint to their battery ??

Anyway, this power/battery thing has always been an underlying issue with M1200 and 1300 machines I think. Maybe they're just best used on one source or the other.

Any insight anyone ??
