    Default OEM disk from Motion?

    Hi,

I was just wondering if anybody has had any success in getting Motion Computing to send them the OEM disk for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005? When I emailed them, all that was mentioned was the recovery media.

I'm just quite frustrated at the horrendously slow startup time for my new LE1700, and not having the option of just clean installing the whole thing is driving me nuts! :( When I got my HP tc4200, the first thing I did was to clean install everything.

    Thanks in advance.

There are several ways to go about making your own, I've done it several times. The first thing you will need is the I386 folder usually located on your C: drive. Check the following locations:
    • C:\I386
    • C:\WINDOWS\I386
    • C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS

Report your findings and I'll do my best to help you out. If we can get one working for you I'd like a copy for my own tablet. :D

I would like to make my own recovery disc as well for the 1700. Found the specified file you mention...now what?

I made an image on a different drive while it was still virginal.

    Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, been hung up on changing hosts the past few days. I've actually got a DVD of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 but it is HP's (came with my tc4200). Been wanting to try something with that but my one and only external DVD drive chose to die on me NOW! What a time LOL.

So I'll need to wait till I get a new external DVD drive in.

I've actually tried copying the entire contents of the DVD onto my external USB drive to try and install if from there only to find out later that PCs just don't boot from external USB drives or something like that. Even if ntldr & boot.ini grabbed from my LE1700 & chucked within, sigh...

Not much information around on LE1700s is there? Been searching here and there on forums, no information on anyone else emailing Motion for the OEM disk. Hasn't anyone tried too? I've heard that some other tablet making companies do send OEM discs if you ask, why not Motion? I mean, isn't what we're trying to do here illegal or something... [?]

    Thanks.

Why don't you try giving them a phone call? Sometimes actual conversation with a real person is preferable. Motion is a fairly small company. You probably won't just get a scripted CSR who knows nothing.

@sbtablet: Not a bad idea, actually I did this myself. Timing being what it was, Motion Computing has sent me a XP restore DVD.

@silver & swifty: I will have a vanilla (no drivers or extra software) Motion Computing Windows XP SP2 installation CD ready to go in a few days. Silver, I'm not sure you could make an HP CD work on a Motion as the HP OEMBIOS files would be incorrect for the Motion.

Hi everyone, I managed to get the HP DVD to work on my LE1700, not a problem at all. Just needed to plug a USB mouse & keyboard in to type & select options.

    silver:
Sorry for the late reply, busier than what I expected. Glad to see the HP disc worked. If you or anyone is interested I have created a bare bones WinXP SP2 Tablet Edition disc with Motion Computing's OEMBIOS files and proper factory product key. There is nothing else special about the disc. There are no unattended options.
