Default let's start the discussion on the new Dell tablet

Dell's not quite to the market, yet, but which one do you like better...?

Since Lenovo took over I haven't been impressed. I have a Dell desktop and e1505 laptop and they have been good for me. It looks more and more like a toss up. Used to be I'd have said a thinkpad without even thinking, not anymore.

Talk to me again when there is a Dell Tablet? :-)

I can see Dennis' point easily, but for me, it's becoming on issue of what I will get to take apart. My employer buys Dell, not Lenovo. I am certified to repair Dell systems (including Latitudes), not Lenovo. My organization will probably buy Dell tablets; we have quite a few Motion tablets in the enterprise already. Seems to me that my hopes of replacing a tablet motherboard lie with Dell. This is no slam on Dell's quality; buy enough of anything, and repairs will be necessary eventually.

Personally, I'm fully in the UMPC camp.

Why do I want a 9" computer with no keyboard? Probably for the same reasons someone else might want to lug around a 17" behemoth with a keyboard: it suits me, it does the job, and I know how to use it.

If I am allowed to be emotional, I would admit that I have an aversion towards Dell. Im MY eyes, Dell=ugly ... but, it is just me, sorry if I offend Dell enthusiasts!
Would the Dell tablet change my mind? let's see!

    <<...Dell=ugly...>>

ever: I won't be as harsh, but I think you raise a good point. In my mind, Dell = Ordinary, which is kind of ironic to me because Dell first got their reputation by [u]not</u> being ordinary!

HOWEVER... I will also say that except for one or two isolated experiences, I still find Dell to be reliable and durable. We use Dell computers at work and, well, they always work!

And that was really the basis for my original question. Many of us have seen both Dell and IBM / Lenovo products. And we've seen videos of Dell's tablet and some of it's features. It's possible to put 2 and 2 together, if only tentatively.

I think that the Dell tablet will be like Dell's laptops... sort of middle-of-the-road with adequate performance and, probably, good reliability. If Lenovo stops sliding like I think they've been recently, then I think they're going to continue to be better regarded...

I know it is harsh! But when I look at the new HP tablet, it really shows the difference!
Lenovo still adobts the IBM design, but you are right, it can get boring and become "ordinary" so I will wait or get the ST5112 or its successor, perhaps. I Still enjoy my TC1100

...Me, too. I have to admit that WNewquay was completely correct; Vista gives the TC a completely new lease on life...!

I tried Vista but returned to XP because I need the SD, Frame Maker and the battery life was too short for me

well, as far as a know Dell doesn't have any tablet format pc available. I have tested Lenevo and the are quite good, but still i'm in love with fujitsu. As far as support is quite difficult if are going to travel a lot. since they don't have support center in a lot of countries. They have pretty good support over Asia, but central a south america it totally sucks.
