I know alot of felloe industrial designers that use tablets with wacom technology. The gateway's spec's look great to me but does not use wacom. Anyone here use their gateway with photoshop, Alias sketchbook, or painter?

I would go with something different if you are using it for artwork. First off, if you get the FinePoint digitizer, you are stuck with the pen that came with the tablet. With Wacom technology, there are many different pens in many different weights available. Also, the Wacom digitizer supports eraser-pens. I used to have a Gateway M275 with Wacom and it was MUCH better in tablet mode than my M280. Pen accuracy doesn't seem to be as good as the Wacom either, and if you want a pen that lasts, the Finepoint isn't it as they have batteries which are not user replaceable once they die. One more thing - the Wacom pens = cheap. Finepoint special Gateway pens are upwards of $50 dollars and the batteries have an estimated lifetime of only 2-3 years!

Bottom line: Professional artists don't use Finepoint... they use Wacom.

Well said. I have a GW as well right now its working ...but I use it knowing that whenever I have any issues with the applications I run ..the manufacturer will quickly say its my GW ..an unknown, un-supported technology.

And often GW techs don't have a clue about their tablet technology. The issue about PEN and battery for example ..several times I've had the techs tell me there is no battery.

If you intend to use the tablet feature heavily for art ..while it may cost more initially, in the end your better off with Wacom technology..its tested and proven.

The CX210X with 1.8 C2D and x1400 vid card is only $1,200! No other notebook has a good vid card and is 14". Or is there? looks like I JUST missed the boat. Toshiba cut all their tablets but 1. Any other tablets out there with 14" screen and dedicated graphics?

I will be using the pen mainly is sketchbook. If the line quality and number of sensitivity levels is decent, I might get it anyways. Anyone here use sketchbook alot?

I've never used sketchbook in my life, and I don't honestly know for sure if anyone else makes a 14inch wide tablet. (however I beleive the Gateway is the only one)

If you purchase the cx210x, you'll love it as a notebook, but hate it as a tablet. Trust me - I've got one!
