Default I opened my machine to add one gig of ram expect

I opened my machine to add one gig of ram expecting to remove a 256 Simm only to find to my delight that I must have 512 internal. so now I have 1.5 gig and wonder if that .5 really matters or Should I have Just Bought the 512.

I hope it wasn't a waste of Coin.

    Hi Dave,

Whether or not you need or will use that last 512 meg of ram (all the time) you have given yourself the liberty to *not* have to manage how many windows or applications you are running.

If you move to Vista as some point - you will be glad you've got the memory.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be grateful for the surprise, and not give it a second thought.

Take it and be happy with it! :-)

What type of machine? Pretty sure with the TC1100 the factory fitted RAM was always in one slot only, not spread over the two.
Current: Toshiba Tecra M4 PTM40A with 2GB RAM running Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.
Old: HP/Compaq TC1100 with 2GB RAM, 7,200rpm HDD and Intel 2200 MiniPCI running Vista Ultimate.

Well, I added 1GB to the factory 512MB and - guess what - rarely find any difference inperformance!
Must be that HUGE bunch of programs I'm running, maybe some of the tools or add-ins...? I Even reinstalled the whole system at one point, but after adding all those software packages, I'm back where I was before.

Maybe it is also a matter of disk size and speed, as I'm still running the factory 40GB disk it came with (I think 5x00upm).

Well, I just took a look into system panel, software, counting over 140 entries... the program folder is about 4.7Gigs of size, counting about 38000 files in some 2900 folders and subfolders... (Oooops... and I didn't even reinstall all tools after system rebuild!).
So maybe tis is NOT the average TC1100 to compare to ;)
