    (using a TC 1000)

Whenever I try to import a file or adjust import preferences in Journal, I get an error box that says I need to run Journal /RepairNoteWriter. But if I try running that command I get another error saying that Windows doesn't have that file. I can't find anything having to do with Journal on the restore CD, nor can I find anything about Journal on Microsoft's website, besides the Journal Viewer. Anyone have any idea what's going on? What types of files is Journal supposed to be able to import?

I can't address what you should do to repair Journal other than a reinstallation of the software. Hopefully, someone else can provide additional help for that.

However, regarding what can Journal import, the answer is (practically) everything. It doesn't really do any importing. Instead, it appears to be running some sort of script. The script opens the program that originally created the document you are importing (so you must have the program on your device), then "prints" the document using the Journal Note Writer. All this thing does is to create a picture (Journal format) of the document, save the thing where you tell it, and then open it in Journal.

It is similar to what PDF Writer does to create PDF files if you have ever used that.

I use the import feature for all kind of forms that I have to fill out regularly. Now I just open Journal, fill out the form there, and print it (to paper)! It makes filling out all those organizational forms almost fun!

Can you verify the following files are in \Program Files\Windows Journal\?

    jnwdrv.dll
    jnwdui.dll
    jnwmon.dll
    jnwppr.dll
    pdialog.exe

If any of these files are missing/corrupt, it might cause "Journal /repairnotewriter" to fail as you are seeing. If indeed they are missing, you should be able to extract them from the appropriate .CAB file, and re-run journal /repairnotewriter to get things working again. Let me know if this works.

    Thanks,
    Dan
