It really sucks...is there any replacement out there that is better?

Unfortunately, the CX2610 uses pen and digitizing techology from Finepoint instead of the more popular Wacom solutions used in most other Tablet PCs. Therefore, there are no other options for pens out there right now besides Gateway Executive Styli. Sorry.

What specific problems are you having? Gateway is pretty good about replacing the pen under warranty, so if it's an issue of functionality versus personal preference, a replacement pen might help.

The main problem I have is that it's very difficult to hold the pen I think without accidentally tapping the button. I can't tell if it's that actually or the thing is just randomly right-clicking and it's defective. Maybe I should see if I can get them to send me a new one.

I found the same thing with this pen, as opposed to the one with my TC1000. The button seems to be in the wrong spot. I started by trying to make sure the button wasn't under a finger or thumb, but it always seemed to migrate there. I ended up just disabling the button and using the Pocket PC method of right clicking by pressing and holding. I'm used to it with the Pocket PC, so it didn't take much to get used to.

Pen issues have gotten worse, now when I hover the cursor jumps wildly all over the place, and will ink even when I'm not touching the screen. Guess I'll have to try to get a new one.

I have the same issue. In fact, if I hover the cursor above the screen, I can see it blink about a 1/4" to the right on the screen. The tails on letters and phantom vertical lines are becoming very problematic, as are the straight lines that come out like zig-zags.

I tried replacing the pen in hopes that it was defective. Unfortunately, I fear that the panel on my model may be defective. That, or the heat leaking up from the keyboard affects the screen functionality (as I even have periods where it doesn't write at all... the same effect as writing with a pen on a wet patch of paper).

So I am curious, did you issue ever get resolved? Did anyone else encounter this problem? (My specific model is the Gateway CX-2610 and I use it primarily in tablet mode taking notes in class or highlighting scanned texts.)

First off, for those of you that have an issue with the placement of the buttion, you should turn the right click function off and just use the press and hold right click feature. Over time, you will find that you don't click the button as much and if you choose to, you can turn the right click back on.

Secondly, one option you can all try is to pull the tip out of the pen, wipe it down, blow a little air into the pen and replace the tip. That seems to solve some of the problems that occur.

Hope that helps some of you.

Yeah, I've had the same problems with my CX2610 and Gateway refuses to acknowledge that the problem even exists.

I was able to convince them to send me a replacement machine and it's got the SAME problem, too... the new machine isn't quite as bad as my original unit, so I've given up trying to get satisfaction and just started saving up to buy a different brand!

Here are a few of my blog posts about the problems I had. I even recorded a video of the problem for tech support to see and they still claim there's no problem! There's a link to the video in my February 19th post, if you want to see it.

Anyway, if you're able to get any resolution to your problem, be sure to post about it, here, so the rest of us can learn the "magic words" to get Gateway to respond! :)

I have the exact same problem. It is really troublesome when trying to take notes in class. I am constantly having to drag a circle around the stray marks and delete them. I wish there was at least a simpler way to erase.
