In regards to your CPU speed issue, that's ePowerManagement with Intel SpeedStep at work. When you're on battery, the CPU is set to a lower clock speed to save power. When you're back on AC, it comes back up to 2.0ghz. Right-click on the green bar in your tray, point to CPU speed, and choose the option that's right for you. You can also fiddle around with some custom power schemes so that you can adjust the speed to your liking.
The fix to the freezing issue that most people found worked was to remove the SD card slot filler, or simply push it out and back in a couple of times during the freeze-up. Acer hasn't really done much about it. Right now I have an actual card in there and have not had any issues since.
