I should add that when I really push the pointer hard, the cursor bounces back as much as an inch when I let pressure off the pointer.
Friends:
My cursor does not jump around as some have complained of, but it is REALLY hard to move. I push that red nubbin and the cursor moves slooooowly across the screen. If I push it hard, really hard, the speed is better but that gets old. I have had my Thinkpad less than 2 months and am wearing off the texture on the track point. Any advice? Is there a software fix for this, or should I send it back to Lenovo?

Check your mouse settings in the Control Panel, I think the sensitivity of the trackpoint can be configured.
Regarding the texture, which trackpoint head are you using? (http://reviews.cnet.com/TrackPoint_C...-30677350.html)
BTW, found this interesting page about the trackpoint (in Japanese, bring a translator):
http://review.ascii24.com/db/review/...38629-001.html
I am using the pointer on the right, with the little nubbins. I ran the Japanese webpage through the Google translator (BETA, and they mean it!) and got this:
"The stick part of the TrackPoint like the joystick is not the case that it collapses. Cursor movement is done by the fact that the distortion which barely it occurs the occasion where power was applied is detected. As for TrackPoint basic mechanism, Distortion gauge true to its name is the sensor which converts the distortion of the object to the electric information. "
Anyway, today I thought to update the Thinkpad software updater thingy (what is it called?) and it downloaded and installed numerous files through multiple restarts and that somehow miraculously improved the trackpoint performance. Huge improvement, in fact.
Software Installer, I suppose.
Anyway it's good to hear that, however, it seems weird to me that the texture is wearing off for the type of head you use, think you really worked it hard.
The center top one does wear off quite fast and needs to be replaced often if you use much, but less so for the other 2 types.
Have a nice day.
