Does the current version of OneNote that is coming with a tablet that i will be ordering this weekend (specifically, the M4) still make you type or ink into the text boxes or have they fixed this?
I'm assuming you are referring to the manner in which One Note 2003 groups text and drawings into boxes or rectangles after you've done the inking (or typing). This will not be part of the One Note 2007 release (in beta now and it's much better). Your M4 will have the 2003 version. If you don't like the inking in One Note, you might try Go Binder or Evernote or TEO 3.0.
The OneNote still groups things together (the note containers are still there), but the logic it uses is much better in the next version.
when is the 2007 version of onenote coming out? Do you think it will be $50 like I have heard the student version is? Do you have to buy from a university bookstore (for example) to get the student discount? (or can you get it from BustBuy, etc.)
Any academic discounts need to be obtained through your school or one of Microsoft's academic pricing partners, ID checks and all that stuff. Best Buy only has the Teacher's & Students version which is a ripoff since even small colleges sell Office Pro for less than $100, big ones sell for $15.
As for release, MS pushed off release to early '07. You can sign up for beta but that's a long shot.
