Thread: PersonalBrain, MindGenius, Mindmanager ... Does

I posted the following on the mindjet users area, but probably there are more tablet/mindmanager users on this newsgroup. My questions:

    1. Can one add ink notes to branch labels? I don't mean hyperlinks, I mean the 'notes' option which opens a window at the bottom of the screen. I need to put equations/symbols in my notes so I definitely need a pen option for this.

    2. How do you make multi-line pen labels? There is an example of a 3-line ink label in the QuickStart Map (Pen-Mode) under Tablet Help for MindManager, but no instructions on doing this. I see how to make a multiline label using a keyboard, but not using ink. If you enlarge the size of the label box, you just get larger letters (not more room).

    love2lindy,

    1. Unfortunately, the text notes do not (yet?) support ink. But your need could be met by using a Sketch attached to a branch label. The sketch box area will take any marks--text or pictures--that you can make with a pen. It won't subsequently convert your text, but it can function as an attached note area.

    2. Tools/Preferences/Tablet PC lets you specify the ink input field in pixels. Bump it up and write the same size, as many lines as you like! (In other words, you don't have to obey the line guideline in the input field.)

Thanks, rsp57! Your suggestion for multiline labels works great. But pen-based notes are still definitely on my wish-list...

LOL! Actually, technical support suggested 'cutting' from journal and 'pasting' into the notes area. When I tried this idea using the lasso in journal to select the area, the image was distorted. But when I used a program like hypersnap to select/cut the image, then pasting the image into notes preserved the image exactly.

So this is workable, but it seems to be an overly-tedious workaround to the obvious feature which should have been included in MindManager, i.e., the ability to enter notes using the pen mode!

    MINDMANAGER!MINDMANAGER!MINDMANAGER!MINDMANAGER!

What a great tool. I rated it as pretty cool but with the tablet pc enhancements I rate it as excellent!

I use it for note taking at meetings, preparing documents and presentations and general brainstorming.

Just download the 21 day trial and try for yourself! www.mindjet.com

    Tom,

I can't drag a sticky note into MM. Did you do anything special to make this happen?

One of the buttons in the Sticky Note is the copy button (looks like 2 overlapping papers). Write your note in Sticky Notes, press the copy button, right click on the branch you want to add notes to, then click 'Toggle Text Notes' to turn on the text pane. Then right click inside the text pane and choose Paste.
That was for Mouse mode by the way. In Pen mode the right click menu won't appear when you right click the branch, but the shape of the edit area of the branch will turn into a shdowed box. From there, choose 'Text Notes' from the view menu. The right -click menu works in the text pane however, so just choose paste to drop in the yellow sticky....
Got my OneNote beta CD today. Gonna see if the quicknotes feature will work the same way. Will keep you posted.

Also- Is everyone having the 45 second delay when opening MindManager? The Dev team sent out a notice that it was caused by a Windows Update patch, but I haven't heard back in a while.

For me, the handwriting on the sticky note gets distorted in the notes area after pasting if I use the copy button on the sticky note (just as occurs when I use the lasso within journal). Things seem to work much better if I use a clipping program (hypersnap, snagit, etc.) to clip the region from either journal or the sticky note, then paste the clipped region into the notes section.
