Thread: I'm using my 1400 with an 21 inch external monit

Default I'm using my 1400 with an 21 inch external monit

I'm using my 1400 with an 21 inch external monitor (Samsung 213T), working pretty well at the optimum resoluton of 1600x1200 with a little bit of ghosting, which I think is a product of the pass-through on the dock (got a crisper image once when I connected the tablet directly). Thinking of getting a 24-inch Samsung with a 1920x1200 resolution. Anyone have any success or problems driving a monitor of this size, or at this resolution? Naturally, we 1400 users are hindered by not having a digital connection.

According to the M1400 documentation the external port is capable of doing only 1800 X 1440:

External Monitor Resolution Support: 1800 x 1440 (maximum)

You may could get more external resolution with external boxes like the Maxtor DualHead2Go or TripleHead2Go:

Those Matrox products don't increase the resolution. They simply pretend to be a very large monitor and then split that between the real monitors. So, no, they won't let you output to a larger resolution, but they will let you output to 2 or 3 external monitors.

I'm using my M1400VA with a SyncMaster 243T at work and a Dell 2405fpw at home, both at 1920 x 1200. Both look great. (I'm using the latest drivers from the Intel website.)

I am able to use my LCD 26" TV by plugging into the vga plug on the back of the set. It looks fantastic! No problems at all.

Alex & Steve - are you guys connecting through your docks? I get a bit of ghosting with my 213T when I connect through my dock, while the one time I connected directly to the tablet I remember getting a clearer image. I just tried a newer version of the same Samsung monitor -- the 214T -- and have to return it, partly because of a defect, but also because the ghosting is even more pronounced given the greater brightness of this updated display.

Miket: no I connect directly. I have read reports on here of problems with docks though. The display is not as bright as it is when the monitor is connected to any of my desktops though. BTW instead of a dock I use this nifty Electrovaya stand and put up with the loose cables:

Thanks, Steve. BTW, where do you find these drivers on the intel site, and are they different than the drivers that come with the monitors themselves. My new, and about to be returned, Samsung came with its own up-to-date drivers. Are you talking about general graphics drivers from intel, or monitor specific ones? Sorry I'm such an idiot about all this.

Ah, now I see what you're talking about. I use that little Intel Extreme Graphics icon to switch between my Samsung monitor and the tablet when the tablet is docked. So when you're talking about drivers, I assume you mean the latest Intel Extreme Graphics driver. Not sure what's in my machine. Bottleneck for me is definitely the dock. At home, my tablet mostly stays put, but at work I dock and undock any number of times a day as I go back and forth form meetings. Would be a real pain for me to reconnect all those cables, especially the VGA cable with it's annoying and stubborn little thumbscrews. Is this what you do?
