...like voice commands, or alternative input hardware?

I just ordered a new Tecra M4, and now feel much like an expectant father waiting for the stork. And as my mind is racing a mile a minute, I'm coming up with questions.

As a graphic designer/illustrator, I often need to press key combinations with one hand while using a stylus or mouse in the other. Won't this be an issue when I'm using my new Tecra M4 in tablet mode?
Does anyone else have this problem? How have you solved this?

I plan on using a variation of Chad Essley's set-up...
    see: http://www.cartoonmonkey.com/mt2/200...onspiracy.html
...using some kind of USB input device, but has anyone tried using voice commands to activate keys while in tablet mode? Any experience with voice activation of any kind?

I originally posted this question in the General Tablet PC Discussion forum:

...but because I'm specifically asking RE: a maxed-out Tecra M4 I decided I'd post a variation here too.

    Hope that's okay.

    thanks

I've run into this too -- curious to hear if anyone has found an answer.

I have the same problem but I use the built in XP onscreen keyboard. Do a search for osk.exe on your machine and when you find it, run the program and you'll see!

Not sure that'll work for me because I'm trying to do something with my stylus WHILE using key commands. I'll probably be using the hardware solution I mentioned above. (unless I find that voice commads will actually work)

It will work --- I've used Windows' on-screen keyboard and the one bundled w/ Pen Office 2.5 to allow me to make use of shift and alt and other click-drag modifiers in FreeHand and a number of other drawing programs.

That said, I would be curious if there's a program which will allow one to remap a numeric keypad (I just picked up a nifty USB one which doubles as a calculator) to be used as a modifier keyset --- I especially need shift, alt and control

Check out quickbuttons...A very simple app that creates toolbars that you assign key combos to.

Do a search on this site for miniscroller, an small, indispensible floating...thing...that, among other features, lets you apply and lock shift, alt and control. Written by a Buzz guy.

Check out this very cool hardware solution:
    X-keys® Stick...http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xkstick.php

And here's a remappable calculator device by the same company:

Quickbuttons will not allow you to latch keys - can't keep the shift key held while you drag with the pen, for example. I contacted the author about this and he confirmed this. He suggested his macro program but I thought it was a complicated solution to a simple problem!
As for Miniscroller, I can't find it anywhere - do you have a URL?

    here's the link for miniscroller:

Mr Etch, My M200 has hardware buttons on the bezel that, as default, allow you to lock shift and ctrl. Perhaps your M4 has the same?...

I would urge you not to dismiss QuickButtons without messing around with it. It's simple but quite flexible. With it and miniscroller, there's not much in the world of key commands your tabletpc cannot do.

    Hi,

I use a external numpad that I remap with Autohotkeys. Works well and does not take much space.

I also like the macintosh keyboard (Being quite narrow) in front when I do some less pen-intensive stuff.

    Regards,

    Tarc
