I bought a new Toshiba M35X series laptop recently and was wondering whether it would be possible in the next year or two to upgrade the processor. It is an Intel Celeron 1.5GHz processor. The laptop has 1028MB of RAM.

I spoke to someone at a computer store and they claimed that the processor is soldered to the motherboard. I'm not entirely convinced that he knows what he is talking about though- he seems like he talks a bit of sh&%!

Does anyone know whether it is possible to upgrade from an Intel Celeron processor to either an Intel Centrino or Intel Pentium 4 in my model machine?

Thanks to you guys, I have the file. Here's a mirror in case bobcat's site goes down:

First I want to congratulate all you guys for this great thread.. I took the time and read it all and it's great...

Second: I want to let you know that it worked for my Satellite Pro M30 1.6 Banias which was stuck at 598Mhz due to MB change ....

My father has the exact same laptop as me but his was never serviced ... And after fixing mine I checked his and it was also stuck at 598MHz which is weird .....

Third: I'm very interested in overclocking my 1.6 Banias ... ( a 125MHz FSB would boost it to 2.0GHz) and so I found some interesting stuff on the net (thought you wanted to know) :

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx...ar1=177&var2=0 -- shows you how to do a "software overclock" -- I did this and it works fine until you reboot (and only for Windows) .... Maybe some of you know a way to OC permanently so I can use it with linux...

    Againa thanks and congratulations.......

    Thanks for your excellent work!
Someone knows if this upgrade works with Dothan 2,13 Ghz (400 Mhz FSB)?

    p.s.
    if someone is still interested:
The third Hex-Number of each entry in the cpu-table-file is in fact a checksum. The algorithm "Checksum-8" is used to generate it.

    Code:
    47 Record Marker
    2d Record Size - 4

i have a toshiba m30 and recently had it serviced. The cpu is now only running at 600 Mhz and i downloaded the utility for this site. I booted the utility and went to the menus (2, 1) and then the program just stopped. It didnt restart so i restarted myself but the speed was still stuck at 600 Mhz. Does anyone know of anything else i can do?
    1) Exit to DOS once you have booted with the F5 key
    2) Run SETTBL_B.BAT
    3) The PC will reboot after a few seconds!

I have recently purchased the m205-810, which has the 1.5GHZ processor. Is this upgradable to the 2.0 or 2.1 dothan? Most of the talk in here specifically references the m200, which makes me weary about following any of the instructions with my m205!
    Thanks for any responses

Yes, you can upgrade the m205. It is essentially the same thing as the m200.

I have the exact same problem.

I have a Canadian version of the M30-UU9 and I have recently upgraded the processor from a 1.5Ghz Banias core to the 1.7Ghz Dothan Core. The processor is stuck at 598mhz. I have tried the pom200t1 v-5.zip boot disk on a external USB Floppy drive selecting: 2, 1. But it gets stuck forever.

I have even tried the SETTBL_B.BAT file, but that is unable to write any blocks(some error alongs the line). as well, I don't know where to get the C******.BIN file that people have been talking about.

Can someone help me out? Thanks
