I was thinking today, if Toshiba did not release any bios update that would allow us to upgrade to a dothan we could maybe backup the bios of a machine with a working dothan and flash our systems with it to make it work? I've found this utility http://www.uniflash.org/ that can backup and flash bioses but it does not work with my m200, it can identify the bios chip, but when I try a backup it locks the machine up hard everytime.
I tried uniflash booting off an SD card, and I was able to create a backup of my 1.40 bios, but I dont know if I could flash it using uniflash. Im sure i cant use the toshiba one because the file is a lot larger than toshiba's image. So in theory we could make this work.
Good thinking! I wondered the same thing, actually. I know that a lot of BIOS utilities that are provided by the manufacturers will backup the BIOS first before flashing the new one. But, the Toshiba BIOS utility doesn't have this feature. So, I figured we were out of luck. But, I didn't think to check for a generic utility out there that can backup/restore any BIOS.
Are you brave enough to try putting 1.30 from the Toshiba web site on and then use the utility to put 1.40 back on to see if the utility actually works for restores?

Man, you guys are braver than I. It's fascinating to follow this thread and I hope you keep updating it as your progress goes along.
I havent tried to downgrade and then restore back to 1.40 just yet.

Of course... I didn't mean to imply that there was a risk for anyone making a backup of the BIOS. The risk is only in doing the restore.
Varian, have you tried the restore yet?
Does anyone have a Dothan machine yet that would be willing to help us out with a BIOS backup using this utility?
