I have just experienced the Soft Keyboard problem after I loaded SP2 on my TC1000. It didn't happen straight away - I was disabling unwanted services as described by BlackViper (whatever happened to him?). All of a sudden - there it was - the soft keyboard that usually comes up during login. I could not shut it down as there was no "X" in the window.
Like others in this forum, I found the softkbd.exe process in Task Manager and stopped it, but it was only a temporary fix.
I also found that I was unable to log off via Ctrl+Alt+Del - the soft keyboard kept popping up and interrupting the logoff process, getting the TC stuck in a loop. Only way out was to kill the power and re-start.
Logging off via Start --> Log Off was ok though.
I tried searching all forums and found three topics describing similar problems but no fix:

I resorted to Google and found a post in the Computer Hardware Forum
http://hardware.mcse.ms/archive39-2004-9-65000.html which says:
Can you try the following:
1. Open a Command Prompt.
2. Change directory to: c:\windows\system32
3. Run: "tabsrv.exe /remove" (without quotes)
4. Restart your Tablet PC
Does that fix it?
There wasn't any further feedback on the post, so I don't know if it worked for the person asking the question.
However, it worked great for me!!! I now have a perfectly behaved soft keyboard again. It appears when it is supposed to, and, more importantly, goes away when it is supposed to.
Thought it was worth sharing with you all!!
