I just put in a new W500 WLAN on my tc1100. Replaced whatever the default card was. Anyways, I've found that now the range is greatly reduced. Networks that used to show 3 bars now only show 1. Anybody have any ideas why?
after checking a couple different places I've noticed that there definitely is a weaker signal or something going on. Could it be that I didn't attach the antennas properly? I simply snapped them off of the old card and then pushed them onto the new card until I heard a click. I assume that's all there is to it. I've also updated the drivers to no effect.
Still trying to figure this one out. If anyone has any suggestions or info about installing a new wireless card, please help.
Dan, Even though I don't have a TC1100, I seem to remember reading here that the number of internal wifi cards that work in the 1100 is quite limited. I know this was not a problem with my TC1000 though. It should not matter which mini plug you plug each antenna into on the wifi card as long as they are firmly seated.
I use several different wireless devices at home and at work and there is a definite difference between manufacturers whos is best. With some, for instance the Dell card that I put in my Toshiba, I get excellent range and signal, but the linksys PC card in my laptop is at about half that. On the other hand, the newer linksys card in my carputer (computer mounted under my car seat for navigation, mp3 etc), I can pick up a signal in my driveway, which I can not with my tablet. The ateros based card that I took out of my toshiba connected better at work, but not nearly as good as my dell card at home in the same machine.
So, to sum it up, you results may be varied.
