Thread: So I really use the Journal application for all

Default So I really use the Journal application for all

So I really use the Journal application for all my notes and love the ability to print from any application into the Journal format. This only works on machines that have Journal installed, so there are several applications on my desktop that I would like to "Print" to my Tablet PC so I can mark them up in Journal. Anyone know if it's possible to install the Journal application onto a non-Tablet PC machine? Or even better, a "print driver" specifically for printing/exporting to Journal format for non-TPC machines? I know MS released the stand alone Journal viewer for non-TPC machines, but they need to add the ability for it to create Journal files as well!

So, anyone out there have a work around for this?

    Thanks!

There was a discussion on this here a while back, I don't think we ever figured out a way for it to be done. One option that was brought up was to copy the print driver itself from a Tablet PC to another PC and install it, that didn't work out, apparently there are some components of the Tablet PC OS that are needed by the print driver. Wish I could help more, but at the moment I don't think there is a way to do what you are wanting.

    Thanks Spencer.

Here's something I just thought of that would work only when the TPC was on the network. I wonder if I shared my TPC Journal Printer, if I could print from another machine on the network to it? I'm not at home now, so I can't try it, but if someone wanted to give it a try, I would be curious to see if that would work. That would at least solve my problem when I'm at home, or could put my TPC on the network.

I think that was tried as well without success, but give it a shot.

Yes, I regularly print from desktop apps to the shared Journal Printer, across my network. Just make sure that the folder you print back into on the tablet is also a network share that the desktop can see.

rsp57, thank you! I'm so glad that it works. I can't wait to try it when I get home. That means I can pretty much mark up anything that I can print. This is very good news indeed.

Great! I had forgotten about that option. Glad to here that there is a workaround for it. Still would be nice to see a version of Journal printer for desktop machines when no easy networkable solution like that is available.

There's a Journal Notes viewer available for non-TPC's. Does it have a print command?

Yes, but only inasmuch that it allows you to print a file already in Journal format to a regular printer.
