Not a great solution but you can generally enter and exit standby to discover all kinds of missing hardware.

I find that sometimes the M1400 does not recoginze that I have plugged in a projector, and does not allow me to go into extended mode via the drop down on the wall paper. I have to re-boot to find the screen.
I was told that this is a cable problem, that if somebody loses the cable supplied by the projector, then this will happen with a standard cable. Any truth to this?
No matter. I would be in a room full of people, trying to hook up to a projector. It would be good if I dont have to reboot to discover the project. Any way to force this?

I have never had a problem using the dashboard utility to mirror the tablet when my projector (Dell 2300MP) is plugged in. I use my projector 2-3 times a week in the winter for farmer/grower meetings and have never had to reboot.
