I just received my CX200 a couple days ago and so far ALMOSTlove it.

I am having major issues with the input panel feature. Sometimes it will appear at a dialog box sometimes it will not. It will never undock from the bottom of the screen but will move to the top of the screen.

I have searched and seen where people have had some issues but nothing seemed similar to this.

    Any thoughts?

Without this feature working it renders the tablet virtually useless when using many programs.

    Hi Goirish-
I'm writing this on my CX20O TIP to test (Lol).

I've very occasionally run into that when inputting into website fields. At first I thought it was the site's UI, but after a clean-up of Temp files, TIP worked just fine. The most serious measure I in ever taken is a defrag. I noticed it 2 or 3 times either during or after heavy multi-tasking.

If you've been busily tweaking settings & un/installing programs like most do with a new machine, you might want to try the above.

In the Big picture, TIP is VERY capable since the Tablet Edition 2005/sp2 upgrade. You shouldn't expect this to be common occurrence.Hope this helps & enjoy the new CX!

Oddly enough I was in the middle of cleaning up the HD when I read your reply. Its strange, still having issues with the input not "appearing" sometimes. It has to be related to an installed program, but I do not want to uninstall all that i have put on. I'm beginning to wonder if it happens when the desktop ink function is active during start up. Still looking for the cause.

I ended up just doing a non-destructive reinstall. The problem is fixed, but I want to find out what the cause was.

It sounds like both of you are dealing with something else, likely software-conflict related as you mentioned.
Harlan, when you say the above, do you mean from the System Restore Disk? It might help goirish iron his out as well.

Too late for me. I was going to restore using the restoration utility, but found that the partition had issues (error; can not access D:/ or something like that). Anyway restored from the restoration discs (second big mistake). Started off missing alot of programs and screen looked like crap.

Called Gateway and explained situation to them and they promptly sent out a loaded replacement HDD.

Thought since i had nothing to loose I would try to get this one up and back to spec. After looking for some updates and downloads at the Gateway site I think I am back to normal, with the exception of having the Gateway restoration partition and utility.

I use Norton w/GoBack so I may just leave it like it is. HHD due here tomorrow just in case I find that there is something else missing.

To anyone: The Intel chip was updated via the system restore discs, the graphics drivers updated via download from Gateway, all Windows and Office apps via MS, I am still missing a DVD player (but I have several already) and I have Nero from another system....

What else am I missing? I have unit set up to my liking, just want to make sure that I am not missing anything that would make a BIG difference.

Long post but needed to give background.....BTW - Input panel is working fine now.:D

    Hello Goirish,
Sorry to hear about all that! Definitely seemed like something out of the ordinary, but those were extreme measures you had to take.
As for other software that came pre-installed, yes, Nero Express 6, CyberLink PowerDVD, and I assume you've got OneNote running (think a separate CD was provided by Gateway for this).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you pop in the Gateway Restore Disk while you're computer's running, doesn't it have a function for Restoring Apps (rather than full disk restore/rewrite)? I thought I'd come across this while trouble-shooting something else.

Lastly, I wonder if GoBack somehow interferes with Gateway's Restore Partition. I've always wondered if there's a conflict with other restore programs. Just curious...
    Best of luck!

The restoration discs did not give many options other than "are you sure you want to do this?". As far as the conflict between Norton and Gateway utility, to me it is unknown but it may be part of the problem. I can tell you this, Norton was not storing to the partioned drive sector (D:/).

I think I am going to install the replacement HHD and check out what I am missing as far as programs and or drivers, but my gut feeling is that I keep my new set up. I have recovered 5G by eliminating the partioned portion of my drive and all seems well.

Though this thread deals with the IBM restore utility (similar to Gateway's in some senses, in claiming onboard memory & not allowing external copies of its data), it verifies that such systems can & do conflict with GoBack.

Hope this helps, though too late for some :-(
And Goirish, you may have come out ahead in the end! I wouldn't mind eliminating the recovery partition intentionally, but. well, some things wait until a crisis... I'd hate to end up in a tailspin just for freeing up memory on a less than 50% full 80gb drive...

    Happy new year, btw.
