Default I was just working on my CX200 at my desk while

I was just working on my CX200 at my desk while my notebook was recharging. I went to move the charger (black box)to a different location on my desk and I noticed that it was EXTREMELY hot! Is this normal, I haven't really noticed it before (I don't think I every picked it up while plugged in before). I don't mean it was warm. I couldn't hold it in my hand for more than a few seconds!

I was charging another notebook right next to this one (another CX200) and the charger was baely even warm. It had been charging longer than my CX200.

Is there something wrong with my battery charger or am I just worrying too much?

This might not be an issue. The power supply works harder while recharging the battery, so it makes sense it was warmer then than during normal operation.

With that said, it is possible you have a faulty unit. Try charging the battery and leaving your unit plugged in for a while - perhaps after leaving it turned off overnight. Let it run for a while and see if your power supply is still warm.

My power supply has gotten rather warm during recharging, but not to the point that I couldn't hold it.

Mine gets hot like this too, but only when the batteries are recharging. It it's used after the battery is topped off then the temperature is barely noticable.

If my 2610's batteries are down 25% or more, then I notice that the charger will get quite warm. If the system's batteries are full and its in standby, the battery charger is never more than warm for me. If the system's batteries are full, and I'm working the system hard, I have found that the charger can get quite warm.

I have noted that peoples view on how hot is too hot to hold varies a great deal, so one person's ouch is another person's very warm.

With that in mind, you might want to measure the temperature and if it is more than 120F, then you might have a problem, other wise it is probably fine.

Bob - Check with GW to see if there are issues with charger or not. Its not uncommon for these bricks to get hot as long as it isnt a documented issue. Dell has had some problem with some of theirs and have replaced them for free.

As for yet another data point, the charger for my cx200x only gets lukewarm even when charging a nearly depleted battery. I have the 8-cell battery if that makes any difference.

I suggest you call support to have replacement and it may cause fire hazard if it get worse.

Battery charger is quite prone to problem of overheating. Many times Dell and Apple had the recalls of that kind.
