    Hi folks,

I picked this up on another forum.

WARNING - if you are not comfortable with regedit - approach the following with caution, back up you registry, and/or set a system restore point.

If you goof this up - you could end up with a non-functioning system.

    --- end of warning ----

    1) Click Start
    2) Click Run.
    3) Type REGEDIT
    4) Click OK.
    5) In the Registry Editor, expand the keys until you get to HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Keyboard.
    6) In the right pane you will see the key InitialKeyboardIndicators.
    7) Change the value of this key to 0 (All locks turned off: numlock, scrolllock, capslock); if it is set to any other number when you see it, then this is where NumLk is being turned on.
    8) Close the Registry Editor.
    9) Restart your computer.

It happened to me also because I had an external keyboard attached and left the num lock on. Next time I rebooted without the keyboard, num lock was on. My fix was to hook up the external keyboard again and turn the num lock off. Nice to know about the registry setting if it happens again especially if I'm without my external keyboard.
