Hello,

I have myself a Toshiba Portege 3505, which unfortunatly still has the original 802.11a/b adapter. I had recently brought up a question reguarding a new 802.11 a/b/g card. 2 people had replied saying that there is no specific brand I need.

I was wonder if:
1. this was true,
2. and if so, what recommendations people have for good choices for reception/transfer capabilities.

Any brand should work. My WiFi-based ISP suggests that, if you are going to forego the on-board WiFi radio for a plug-in PC card, go for the one with the most power (keeping with true 'Home Improvement' maxims). They have been recommending the 200mW Senao (EnGenius) NL-2511CD+. Many for sale on eBay. In checking there just now, I see that someone now has a 300mW (yikes!) card for $86 (auction #5851830281). Good luck. Let us know what you ended up with and how it works for you.

Just remember that more powerful wi-fi radio = less battery time.... if that's a concern to you. I also believe any PCMCIA card will chew up more battery than an onboard wi-fi chipset... but I could be wrong.

Again, maybe that's not an issue.

I currently have an Intel 2100b. I'm planning on upgrading my mini PCI wifi card as well. I plan on getting either the intel 2915abg or 2200bg.

The reason for Intel is because that's all I can find in stores.

The reason for mini PCI is because I don't like having an external pcmcia card that I have to remove everytime I put my laptop in my bag.
