I'll let you know what I experience when I try mine out tomorrow for the first time.
Hi,
I have a Plustec OpticBook 3600 which, at the beginning of each and every single scan, switches that oblong white lamp off for about half a second. This happens if I scan an entire book in a sequence. Is this normal, or does it hurt the lamp (which could be quite expensive to replace)?
tnx

Hi, Bhaltair,
that would be great, thanks a lot!

The light turns off for me for a fraction of a second. Not even 1/2 a second. Seems to be normal.
Is there a way to scan a book and have the files add themselves to one file and automatically number the pages etc? I might be blind, but I cant find this info. I have Acrobat Pro 7 and the software that came with the scanner. I have the "plus" version of the scanner.
there is this gruesome page manager which might do the job. actually, I prefer to have one file per page (ABBY!), then I can do everything I want (on the DOS level). I automatically rename the files, then I read them in by means of a short BASIC program. Since the page numbers correspond to the file names, I add, at the end of every page, a script like
++++++++++++++++++++ 234 ++++++++++++++++++
234 being the page number. That really works fine, and there is a time overhead of no more than say 2 minutes.

I'll be using a slate-I won't want to use old Dos. I'll also want to annotate etc. I have not used Abby yet. I think I'd rather have and use PDF over txt, but I've not really experimented in these options. I've only just started playing with one-note as a tablet pc user.
OK, I've learned to do it with the software.
Sorry, I can't find "PDietoucr txt" anywhere. There is a program called "ever note" which is akin to one-note, and that is free of charge as far as I can see. - Abby is a bit cumbersome in terms of handling but is offers excellent results. I am a bit disappointed about the speed of the OCR-process; a single (big) page, scanned in at 400dpi greyscale takes about 50sec to complete (everything included). I upgraded my computer from USB 1.1 to 2.0, however that did not alter anything. Of course, reducing the resolution and/or reverting to black&white would improve things dramatically, but in this instance I aim at the highest rate possible.
