I don't use that software. I use Cyberlink PowerDVD. Maybe you should try it ... see if its WinDVD's fault?
I have the docking station for the X41 with the multiburner drive.
Today I tried to play a DVD for the first time with the WinDVD software included with the X41.
Sadly, the DVD (a commercial DVD) would not play; the software gave an error message indicating a video overlay problem.
A call to IBM support lasted two hours with no resolution. They re-installed the video drivers, re-installed WinDVD, and checked to see if video acceleration was "on."
Nothing worked.
Has anyone else had a similiar problem?

I backed up a commercial DVD with my X41 a couple of days ago. The copy played fine with PowerDVD, which is also what I use.
The IBM/Lenovo Tech Support people were unable to get the machine to play DVDs while docked with the multiburner. After almost 5 hours on the phone and installing drivers, DVD players, and graphics updates, the X41 still doesn'y play DVDs.
Now, however, the machine is quite unable to do much of anything. It boots EXTREMELY slowly and icons are missing from the taskbar (the "spaces" remain but the icons have gone astray).
The techs finally asked for the machine to be shipped to them; it's with DHL now. The motherboard (which holds the graphics card) will be replaced according to the techs. This is rather disappointing since I need the machine for work.
I can't say that I would recommend an X41 at this point. The wireless card was replaced. The modem card failed and was also replaced and now the motherboard will also have been replaced. Only screen and the case will be original; it's like building the machine from parts.
Time will tell if the motherboard really fixes the problem.
