One of the LCD support arms on my C-110 won't latch into the closed position on the screen assembly any more, so I ordered a replacement from Acer that I'm going to pick up at the local FedEx depot tomorrow (Apparently Acer USA requires a signature for all shipments, including a $15 package of parts, which is another story). I'm going to try and replace the support knob myself following the instructions in the service guide that describe the disassembly process required to do this repair. Before I get started I figured that I'd see if anyone in the forum could offer any helpful advice with regard to things like: any special tools that are useful, any pitfalls to watch out for, any techniques that are not spelled out in the guide, etc.

Thanks in advance for any replies, and if anyone is interested I'll report back on how the surgery went.

I replaced the support knob this afternoon and the whole process went pretty well following the instructions in the service guide. There were however two "gotchas" that I'd like point out in case anyone decides to do the same. First, be prepared to spend a little time figuring out how to remove the Middle Covers over the center rotating hinge. The pictures in the manual aren't too clear and the covers are held together by some plastic tabs that would be easy to break off if you aren't careful. There is also an omission in the steps describing the removal of the LCD Module if you have a WiFi card: Before you try to remove the LCD module you should disconnect the antenna cables from the WiFi card so they can come off with the LCD module when you disconnect it.
