Don't have a tablet yet, trying to decide. LS 800 vs. Toshiba M200.

Has anyone experienced dictating via dragon into the 800?

As to screen size, does producing an 8in. x 11in. type document (such as a patient progress note etc.)pose any specific inherent problem on the small screen.

I am a newbie so bare with it.

    Thanks.

The LS800 has 800 x 600 resolution so you can set your existing computer to 800 x 600 and see how much you can fit on a screen. The pixels per inch of the LS800 is similar to that of bigger laptops and slates in 1024 x 768; in other words it is easy to read things as long as they fit on the screen.

The LS800 was designed with doctors in mind - it fits the pocket on many (but not all) white coats.

I have a bunch of screenshots I've made of various documents (including things like journal articles) from the LS800; see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78999169@N00/ . Of course, these only show you how much will fit, not what size it will be (which is the same thing that will happen if you set your monitor to 800x600). My experience is that I'm very comfortable reading documents that were originally 8.5x11 and then PDFed in full screen mode in Adobe Reader. If the type gets much below 10point, it starts getting challenging, requiring you to magnify it (and then scroll around).
For dictation, I haven't used Dragon, just the built-in Microsoft speech recognition. I was actually fairly impressed, and the multi-microphone system on the Motion tablets seems to really help improve capture (and therefore recognition) quality.

    Thanks TSwitcher.
I think I will do the do the 48 hr demo lease thing and see how the 800 looks.
Have you tried anything like OneNote EMRToolkit for Tablet PCs, or other template making software.
I want to make specific templates for critical care progress notes or consults.

    Rab,

The LS800 is certainly making some "noise" in the HealthCare field. I have been very impressed with it.

If you can squeeze it in a lab coat, there won't be room for your Tarrascon book. :D

The primary design objective of our OneNote EMR Toolkit is to let you "document what you want to document", i.e. use your own forms and templates.

If you're going the 48 hour eval route, please feel free to contact me and we can get you set up with some software prior to the time period so that you can test while you have the machine rather than trying to find stuff off the net.

    Hope this helps,

    Fritz

Fritz's EMR Toolkit will work. I just pulled it up and adjusted the screen to a small window. Try the demo.

I am using the LS800 with DNS 8 Medical and it works very well (I also do some paramedic work). Although it worked OK with 512Mb, you will definitely want 1Gb. If you are talking about our 48 hour lease, put a request for DNS 8 Medical on it and we will try and load the program so you can test it out.

I am exploring use of tablet PCs in dental offices. I'm using an LS800 for my research, but will eventually look at other tablet PCs also.

    John,

Is there an array mic on the LS800 or are you using an external?

    John at alltp.

Sent you an email reqesting DNS 8 Medical.
I had sent the FAX for lease prior to reading your reply.
Let me know if you can get me the LS 800 with the medical on it for trial.
Also want to take advantage of fswitz offer for some software so need a date of shipping if possible.

    Thanks.
