Well, finally, after sitting on the sidelines for a couple of years, I have finally purchased a tablet PC and it was the TC4200 (how many posts without a tablet?). Thanks for all who helped me decide. I was wondering if anyone knew if the dual antennae that this device is supposed to sport would benefit from a MIMO wireless router or if it will have the same performance as a non-MIMO wireless router given that this device does not have the MIMO PC card. I really don't think it would be wise to purchase a non-standard router for more if there is no performance difference.

On a side note, there are two sliding parts on the underside of this laptop. #1 is to the battery, and #2, I'm guessing, is to the docking unit. Is #2 supposed to slide around easily? Thanks.

I believe (according to the hype) that the MIMO router will give you better range even without a MIMO card. Of course, someone who has had both G and MIMO will have to confirm that.

As for the second "slider", it belongs to the travel battery, which clips to the underside of the tablet. It does slide easily, but it should "lock" in place covering the connector.

I have a TC1100 with b/g and a Netgear MIMOg Access point. I bought it bacause there are about half a dozen Wireless networks detectable in my house and some are the rude 108mbs ones that frequency hop and tromp on other networks close by. This results in frequent "drops" in wireless connection.

MIMO advertised better coverage in conventional range even for a non MIMO adapter and since I got the MIMO access point I get better speeds and extremely few drops. This worked much better than high gain antenas on another access point I had.

Can't really speak to extended range or what additional benefits a MOMO adapter would bring. I will say that I'll never buy another Netgear product as they have the worst support I have ever encountered. I'll eventually go to a D-Link I think.

I got myself a non-MIMO router today (Linksys WRT54GS) and I am having a bit of problems with connecting despite having a good signal. When I reset everything, it works fine, then I turn off the tablet and then I can't connect anymore. Very strange. I need to contact Linksys about this one. I can't really speak of dropped signals since I haven't had good connection to tell yet. Thanks for the input. If I can't get good connections with this router, I'll have to try a MIMO one.

The latest Intel drivers for the TC4200 should help with that issue. HP has them available here: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...7_6145.html#16.

A known issue with some Linksys Routers (since Cisco started writing crap firmware for them) is when an IP lease expires, you will need to RESET the router in order to be able to connect to the router as it will not renew a lease (the reset clears the leases so you can connect as a new ip then). Setting your lease limit for the longest possible duration on the router may help some.

There was no firmware fix for this at the time I encountered it (still don't know if there is) but there may be updated firmware available for your router that will fix the issue. My solution was to go to D-link whose hardware might not be so great but has much better firmware. Don't even think NetGear unless you work for Orkin or have extremely simple needs ;)

My D-Link router is exhibiting the same behavior. I think I once read that it has to do with the Intel wireless chipset used by the HP tablets.

Curious... what do you mean by "Can't connect anymore"? Are you seeing an error of some sort? Or do you mean it just doesn't autoconnect?

I have a WRT54G and a TC4200 and haven't had any problems.... hopefully I can help... but need more info.

sorry to hijack this thread, but the subject line is just perfect for my question:
i got my tc4200 a couple of days back, and it has the intel b/g wireless card installed. i already have a broadband connection in my house(abt 1.85 megabits per second), and would love to set up a wireless network. however, after a few months, i will have to change my apartment, and there is no net connection in my new one. i will either survive via a modem connection, or get a much cheaper broadband, maybe 256 or 512 kilobits per second. considering the above
    1) which router would you suggest me to get
    2) will there be more connection drops if my new connection boasts lesser speed
    3) is it better to set up a b or a g network.
    4) is it possible for two notebooks to simultaneously access the same wireless network? in actual usage, what will be the effect on internet speed...i mean, will it be downright halved compared to just one computer usage, or it will be practically same, given that both notebooks will be basically used for surfing, so internet connection will be required only in sporadic bursts.

    thx for your help.
