Default hi- im new- way new! for a couple months ive bee

hi- im new- way new! for a couple months ive been looking for the most basic, userfriendly, inexspensive, compact etc., digital pad to replace the countless paper sketch pads and random notes on home depot receipts. can anyone please advise me on the best device to keep my ideas, designs, and random info in one place which i can access at a later time. photo motification and trace capability is important and erase option a must. i know you guys are out of my league-- i check this sight often and respect your knowledge. thx j.[?]

It sounds like you are working in a workshop scenario. Because you need erasing/tracing etc I would say a ruggedized tablet is out for you because they use touch screens instead of digitizers. Because of the workshop scenario though you may want to start by looking at the Fujtisu line which is compatible (IIRC) with the otterbox cover that basically half-way "ruggedizes" your tablet.

Well, the only thing about a Fujitsu with the otterbox is that's getting up there with price.

I'd actually suggest a Motion Computing M1300/M1400 since they tend to be cheaper while retaining many good qualities. About the size of a spiral notebook, they're very portable and sleek. Many people on this board use or have used a Motion tablet, so there would be loads of help and existing information if you ever have any problems.

The fujitsu slate (5000 series) is a nice tablet also though, if you can find a good price.

Sahara's can also be found at a decent price, but I'm no expert on them. Bishop has a nice reasoning on choosing the Sahara instead of Motion here.

[unworthy]thanks all for the advice! i just recently discovered the motion pad and it did spark my interest, but i havent seen one under
$1000. the budget allows for half that- used is great ofcourse- anybody selling? is ebay a smart spot to keep checking? what do most people prefer: slate or convertible? im leaning toward slate - one less thing to break. haste is waste so ill be testing the options.

Your probably not going to find a working tablet in useable condition for $500. Fujtisu just liquidated over 50 tablets all at a single time on ebay, not one went for $500 (and remember at this time the market was saturated).

You may be able to find an old-model Fujitsu for $600-$700, but if someone's selling a very used tablet, they might list it for under $900. Good luck!
