Hey,

I've been having a problem with going into Standby after i close my lid. I went into Power Options and set both Windows'intrinsic Lid Closed' Mode to standby and the IBM Power Manager setting to go into Standby when I close my lid, but it's still finnicky. Sometimes the tablet goes into STANDBY in less than 10 sec after lid close, other times it take almost 30 sec, and sometimes, it will go into Standby ONLY after I reopen the lid.IF the first two fail, the 3rd always works...

I have played with precisely at what angle i close the laptop. There is a few millimeter lee-way in the algnment of the lid-tab with the slot on the base. (after the screen is clicked into forward facing mode ready to be closed)

That is, when the lid is closed upto like 1 or 2 degrees open, u can kinda swivel the display in the Z-plane and it'll either hit the lock head on, or slightly askance.

ANYONE know how the thinkpads detect that the lid is closed?
(if i had engineering input into this fxn, i'd include the option of prefetching running standby or hibernate mode when the screen was tilted towards the closed position- the 2-3 seconds make a diff)

Anyone else feeling this? Any ideas?

More likely a software problem then a problem with the hardware. XP is pretty finicky with hibernation/stand-by. Device drivers and programs can keep the tablet from going into stand by(Supposedly MS is fixing this problem in Vista---> hibernation/stand-by no matter what) What programs are you running when the you successfully go to standy by/ and not.

I've noticed that the HD protection software can delay a suspend op. I try to leave the tablet still for a little right after I close it, then usually it suspends immediately.
