I would like to edit video on my tablet. Any recommendations about a PCMCIA firewire card for capturing? Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks, DP

There are probably other threads here that address this in more detail (I'd search for Firewire video in the Toshiba folder), but here's what little I can offer:

I researched the card options for several weeks before buying. The primary issue that showed up in reviews is Power Management. Due to the pretty restrictive management on small laptops, esp tablets, many of the Firewire PCMCIA cards that advertise as "no need for an adapter" actually DO on a Tablet. This is either an included bulky hassle, or, if not included, a logistical nightmare (one company offers the specs for an adapter that would work, but acknowledges they've never heard of a manufacturer that makes one!!!):(.

After all that research, I bought the SIIG USB 2.0 + Firewire Cardbus DV Kit. This model truly doesn't require an adapter for use, and offers 2 USB ports (I like having them on the side rather than back), and both 6-pin and 4-pin Firewire ports. I've copied video to the Tablet, but haven't edited heavily yet.

I've installed ULEAD VideoStudio Software, but not used it enough to review. Perhaps I'll check back on this thread once I've tested the software more...

    HTH. Best of Luck.

    Hello,

I purchased a Belkin firewire pcmcia card two years ago and it has been working great. I’m able to capture video into my M200 through Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premiere Pro. I’ve edited home movies on the M200 with both programs. While it’s not extremely fast by any means, it is very doable. I actually use After Effects as well, but it is also slower than I would like.

    Hope that helps,

    James

James, How much RAM to you have installed?
Might help put the slow app use in perspective...

I have the stock 512 megs and 1.5 processor on my M200 at work (most of my video stuff has been work related). I do have an M200 at home with 1 gig and it is definitely faster (haven’t done as much video stuff on this system yet).
