    ...the tabletPC blues.

Some time ago, I posted about a strange, hazy phantom cursor that I was seeing on my tablet screen. The whole sordid story is here:

Well, I sent it in to Fujitsu repair, and after about 12 days of silence I e-mailed to ask what the status was. The diagnosis appears to be a faulty digitizer, but they're backordered on that part and a new shipment won't be in until the end of the month.

So, even with luck, it's going to be almost a month before I get my slate back. And I've already been suffering withdrawal for the last 10 days!! **sigh**

Now, I'll be happy if the problem is fixed, but I sure wish it didn't have to take so long...!

Thats rediculous they should ship you a new tablet to replace the broken backordered one, or at the very least give you a "loaner" tablet ghosted with your drive... something like that.

This doesn't sound like it bodes well (IMO) for Fujitsu support, I guess the important thing is they are fixing it but that really sucks.

Ouch man, that's harsh to live without a tablet!

I also agree with Jaymz, and think they should send you a loaner, or a new tablet all together!

Good luck in your dark times without a tablet...

Jaymz and unknown: I appreciate the thoughts. In all honesty, it's hard to imagine that a loaner would be sensible here; think of all the stuff we do in the average day that Windows squirrels away, God knows where? How would you ever dig all that stuff out so that you wouldn't lose it when your tablet came back and you had to return the loaner?

As for a replacement, years of experience with electronics has taught me that you're almost always better off having your device repaired rather than simply replaced. The reason is that any competent repair operation will really give your device the once-over after the repairs are completed, and it's likely that they'll catch and fix any lingering problems. The upshot is that the device performs more reliably over the remainder of its life. Not always true, I grant, but frequently.

However: yes, these are dark times, indeed...
