Default guys, I just received the thinkpad tpc last week

guys, I just received the thinkpad tpc last week. When I initially booted the machine, I got a blue screen once after the initial bootup (was surprised by how slow the initial bootup was, compared to my Dell Inspiron 700m). After a hard reboot after the blue screen, it went away. Then I got a blue screen when I was modifying the default bootup sequence. But that too went away.

Now, on a hard bootup, the tpc showed a blue screen again! Right now, I'm runnning Normal diagnostic.

I've never seen a blue screen on my Dell. The only time I ever saw the blue screen on my Motion M1400VA was when it had bad hardware.

    Any suggestion?

    PS
BTW, I ordered my in late July and just received it. I ordered it online (W7TABLP version).

Just got my 2nd BSOD in a week. But not on bootup - actually more like hapenning with quite a few apps open and hadn't had a reboot in a while. On battery power too, using wireless. Sounds a bit different than yours although mine is with the same bundle.

I just opened mine and it is BSODing as well. Says Memory Parity Error, looks like I'll be replacing the mainboard on my second day of use :-\

I was getting BSOD with heavy wireless access. I went into the IBM wireless adapter properties (in xp Computer Management) and set the powersave setting from maximun to normal. Seems to have solved the problem.

talked to ibm/lenovo tech support. tech support told me that h/w diag doesn't always catch all h/w error and that odds are most likely that it is something wrong with the hard disk. however, he told me to first do a complete system restore to an initial virgin state and see if bsod happens then.

thanks for all the input guys!

it's a pity that grad school already started and i need this working yesterday, not tomorrow!

I've got that same issue. Hardware diags either freeze or show no errors. Windows BSODs randomly with NMI/Kernel Memory Parity error.
I called Tech support and they blamed it all on the Crucial 1GB chip. So, just to prove them wrong, I removed it and same thing happened again in 30 min.

Right now my tablet is in their service center. IBM was nice to send me the box with prepaid shipping to send the unit. THe bad news is that I got a call from them asking for permission to re-image the drive. It's only two weeks worth of work, but I am also loosing all my tweaks and configuration.

Damn it, I will have to spend another Sunday configuring and installing and removing software. :-(

I got through to a different tech support today. He told me that they run the same diagnostic that I ran and that if the onboard diagnostic can't find anything wrong with the computer, there is nothing they can do.

When I told him that the BSOD happened initially without any s/w installation or modification to the system, and that I don't want to spent another 20 hours of software installation and modification, he told me that there was nothing he can do.

I've decided to return the X41 and get my money back since neither my Dell Inspiron 700m nor my M1400VA ever gave me so much trouble, unless it was bad hardware.

Incidentally, one of my classmates in my marketing class asked for a laptop recommendation. IBM Thinkpad won't definitely be on the list, but Dell Inspiron will be.

just now, when I tried to return X41, I was put on hold for over an hour (12:30p-1:30p CST)! Amazing! Wow, I never knew service was so bad!

Just to give an update on my BSOD (of the NMI Parity Error parity error.)

I was able to repeatedly induce this crash last night - I got it by downloading a large (190MB) file in Firefox. Actually the file was the Corel Draw 12 Trial edition from corel.com. Anyhow, after 3 tries in Firefox but complete BSOD each time, I used Internet Explorer and it downloaded fine the first try. Weird.

I'll try to download the same file again in Firefox just for kicks. It's bizarre, the Laptop can be rock solid for days, but then keep BSODing when trying to do a relatively simple task.

What are people's temperatures at? My CPU gets up to 60 degrees... as monitored in the Centrino Hardware Control. Anyone else get this?
