    ****Second Post!!!*****

I have had the c100 for alittle over 3 months now. Got it from a doctor that left my tech firm.

Anyway, anyone who has one of these things knows it comes with restore cd's and a really crappy usb cd-rom. TO be honest I did a restore 3-4 times on the tablet. Then i tried loading fedora... not a good idea.
I decided to redo the tablet a new way.

    1. Went into bios and turned speedstep to maximum performance.
    2. Plugged in 56x dual dvd+- sony usb burner.
    3. Put in the latest copy of msdn windowsxp pro with sp2/tablet edition 2005 cd1.
    4. Partitioned 80 gig hard drive c:12 gigs, d:20gigs, e:42gigs (with windows cd)
    5. Loaded windows and 2nd tablet edition cd.
    6. Loaded most of travelmate drivers.
    7. Loaded c111 launch manager.
    8. Loaded all my apps, (photoshop, office, dreamweaver..etc)

Conclusion after installation- tablet performs twice as fast. NO JOKE!

    TWEAKING-
    1. Turned off all unnecessary services, used "optimize xp guide" from google.
    2. Uninstalled useless windows applications, (msn, messenger)
    3. Turned off most of the visual appearance stuff. I kept shadows and themes though.
    4. Followed guides and later used tweaknow powerpack 2006. To tweak the cache, set l2 cache for windows and alot of other memory settings.
    5. ran jv16.org regsupreme to remove bad registry keys.
    6. installed diskeeper and defragmented all drives.
    7. defragmented the registry

I have now been using my tablet for over a month and it is still as fast as when i first made it on this new 80 gig drive.

    Visual Tweaks-
    1. used neowin uxtheme patcher.
    2. Installed new visual styles.
    3. Use system object editior and axialis iconworkshop to edit icons and add foldes to my computer.
    4. just started using xpize. www.msfn.org crazy!!!

    lots and lots of tweaks....

The difference from loading a this tablet with its restore cd's with two fat32 partitions and the old os, then having to upgrade to 2005 and convert file system to ntfs, slows the whole system down alot. If you can i would start fresh with the latest windows cd. trust me you will thank me afterwards.

let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry Krad not trying to steal the thunder by any means--I am very impressed with upgrade process. It sounds like a ton of steps for a rookie like myself to go through. Any other tips that you can give would be greatly appreciated. How much faster is this new supercomputer after these amazing tweaks?I do realize the RAM is limited. If the speed is fast enough, we should consider selling the C100's and going to c110.I need the hibernation mode to turn off mine can you assist inthe steps?"
    Thanks,

I have the max amount of ram for the c100, which is 256mb.

I will put it to you this way.

Going through the restore disks although way to installing sp2, having no wallpaper or themes. Turning off every visual effect. The tablet was to slow for me to really use seriously. And on top of that, i even tried using bootvis to speed up the boot process. Did not help really at all.

When i went the other way and loaded the latest windows msdn cd's. the computer with most visual effects and themes is still about twice as fast. Now the computer is usable to me. I can have dreamweaver, photoshop cs2 and opera loaded all at the same time and there is no slow down. THe slow down i experience is closing photoshop, which is 3 seconds.

I have also tried vista on the c100. Believe it or not, it was alittle faster then the restore cd acer method. But not as fast as the msdn cds. Still vista would hang on some aspects of operation.

Another tweak that i found, was that you can load the launch manager for the c111 on a c100. THIS IS WORTH DOING!!!! when you use the launch manager from c110, tyhe wireless button and wireless switch are under a second. When you load the c100 launch manager there is a 5 second delay till it swtiches. The newer launch manager also fixes the pop email bug in the c100 that i experienced. THe only drag, is you will need to go into the registry and manually input your hotkeys. If you try and load them with the hotkey manager, the manager will crash. But if you do it through the registry, the buttons work, email flashing works, and the wireless switch is super fast.

Just some background, I am an mcp and specialize in windows xp being that it is my favorite.

Good luck and becareful with the registry. :-)

    Dude,

your in a ruff spot. If you do not have the recovery cd's you will have to order them. If you do not have an msdn or technet contract with microsoft you ain't getting the latest cds.

you can probably order the oem verson of tablet 2005 from microsoft directly.
