I'm not familiar with PCMCIA ones, but have you considered bluetooth GPS devices? I'm using the Emtac Trine III Bluetooth GPS and it has been great.
I'm thinking that it would be useful for me to have GPS on my X41. Would it be possible to use a mini pci card or do I need to go pcmcia?
Also what cards would you recommend? (cheap == good for me)
Thank you

It's so hard to find decent comparisions of different GPSes.

PS I own the Holux GPSlim 236. Bluetooth - works great! Running TomTom 5 as well on my Imate Jam.
I just finished a big trip with Delorme's Street Atlas. It came with a usb 12 channel gps reciever for $99. I wanted a bluetooth reciever but didn't quite have the time to pick one up before my trip. The software worked pretty good however, I was was impressed by how you could setup the display to be easily readable from far away.(The font for Directions is really big, plus there is a high contrast option.) It also has voice recognition, so you can just shoot out commands like where's my next turn, or where am I, while your driving. The software also worked very well with a pen even though I don't think it was designed for it. Even though your're not suppose to..it was quite usable while driving.
The only negative was probably the amount of points of interests. It won't compare to some DVD based car navi's since the software comes on two cd's. There is a dvd version of the software however which has an insane amount of information as well as commercial/residential phone numbers so you can find points by phone numbers.(Really cool feature.)
