Hi,
I would love to buy an x41 for college. However, the only thing holding me back is hearing about these wait times - if it doesn't get to me by September 20th or so I'm in trouble as I'm going overseas for college. Ordering it now, do you think it will make it? I realize you can't really know, but I would appreciate anyone's opinion on the matter based on current trends. Thanks!

I ordered mine yesterday - i too need it for college on or around Sept 20th. I was told to call back at the end of the month...for an update - but not to expect it sooner than 3-4 weeks.
Basically, this estimate is very close - but i have a backup plan if I end up having to head off for school and i don't have the tablet...i have a buddy who has agreed to forward it to me provided i compensate him.
Perhaps you could arrange something like this? Either way - everything i've read about the X41T is on the mark with respect to my needs. I'm all in - and riding out whatever...
Thanks. Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm considering going for my first term without a tablet - I'll be back in the country in early December for six weeks. Do you think it's worth the wait? Or should I spring for the m200? That was my runner up, and as a bonus my friend received his in about 2 weeks with them, customized. Thoughts?
Possibly...but shipping overseas is $$$. I'll call them today when I get off work and see what they could do. I suppose I could get it shipped to my college in the UK if I'm desperate enough...I just don't know if it's worth it.quote:Originally posted by pradhanos

not to throw out flamebait, but you could always just say screw it and buy an hp tc4200. It is quite a comparible machine to the ibm, and you would have no problem getting a few days after you order. It's basically a win win situation.
why don't you investigate price/ availability / and fuction of the warranty if you purchase in the UK?
it's kind of a longshot that it would all work out to a good deal for you ... but who knows. you might get lucky.
:-)
there is no way to know what will happen with order times in the next few weeks/months without lots of data you don't have.
like... how many can they build, can they increase that number, is the number of orders escalating/declining/leveling off ???
somebody knows all that stuff and probably has thought of little else for the past month... but they aren't talking.

by the way... having said all the above... I thought I should also inform you that my magic eight ball, my astrologer, and two of the three voices in my head speaking a language I can understand all concure that you seem like a pleasant person but probably don't have a snowballs chance of getting the tablet in your desired timeframe.
:-(
... I think the advice above is good to hold on and see for a little while; but, to have an escape plan mapped out, thought out, and ready to go.
"Hope for the best and plan for the worst", as they say.
good luck,

lol, thanks. I was holding out some hope. If i decide to go with the IBM I will probably see if they can ship to my address in the UK if it takes longer than six weeks, but I wouldn't want to buy it there because of the exchange rate. I appreciate the advice of your head's voices though, so thanks! I'm also going to check into the m200 and the HP - less uncertainty, lower price - the tradeoffs of weight and such will probably be worth it. I wish the Lenovo purchase were a simpler process! Sounds like a lot of people are kind of getting the run-around...
All right, time for me to eat crow a little. I'm still stuck on the X41 after checking into the HP. With the discount, it's about the same price, maybe even lower. And I trust the thinkpad name. So thus begins my waiting saga. I feel like I'm going to need a support group or something!
