I have Vista loaded and dual booting on my M4 and want to remove it. i have no access to get the TIP so I am just going to remove it until Beta 2 and hopefully I will get it then. I have fallen in love quickly with the "tablet" and don't want to be stuck using the keyboard all the time...

My question is, if i remove the partition with PM what do I do about the DOS dual boot screens? Can I pull the bootloader off the XP Tablet install disk? Any ideas?

    What you *could* do:

    In Vista

    Start
    Right Click My Computer
    Properties
    Advanced
    Startup and Recovery Settings
    - set Windows XP Tablet as the default
    - set the Time to display list of operating systems, really low.

Then do what you want with the Vista partition.

    -or-

In theory, if you do a repair install on the Windows XP Tablet PC Ed, this *should* fix the bootmanager.

WOW, that is exactly what i needed. First time ever dual booting anything. maybe i will just keep the Vista installed on there and keep looking for the TIP if it ever gets released. Unless anybody wants to share... JK I don't think anybody can. My hopes are it gets released to MSDN folk soon.

WN - are you running Vista? There are 2 DOS screens on my machine when I start up. 1st LH or Legacy - Then if I choose Legacy it takes me to the second DOS screen - Longhorn or XP pro. Is this normal???

    Hi G.I.S Guy,

My hopes are that the MSDN folk will get it soon too.

    Yes, I'm running Vista.
Yes, the 2 DOS screens are normal. If you choose Legacy, the Vista boot manager seems then to call the XP boot manager. This is a little clunky but it's a beta right?

By the way, I'm finding that Vista is pretty stable. I had to find a new virus scanner though as my Network Associates "VirusScan" would not execute. The free avast product seems to be working well.

Where can I get Vista? Have I missed something?

    Hi BFurlong,

Vista is in a beta 1 release and is available to MSDN subscribers or through the Microsoft Beta Program. It is not generally available for download - and - it is not recommended for use on production systems. In other words, I wouldn't install it on a machine upon which I relied for day-to-day operations.
