Who can tell me what exactly "ETA" refers to?
Thanks.
Someone at thinkpads.com said that a customer service rep told him:
"This is being affected by a quality hold on the hard drives. I have no tablets going out as well as these x41 notebooks, killin me. This is a hold worldwide though, no one is sending these out. Sorry. As soon as its fixed they will ship, his eta was last week in July, but hopefully sooner"
When I called last week, I got told the same time frame.
So for those of you still waiting for their table to ship (like me), now you know what's going on.
I just hope it isn't a major design flaw with the HDs.

Thanks.
Estimated Time of Arrival (golly, I hope that was your question).quote:Originally posted by netghost

If this is true I'm more than happy to wait for them to gix it.
Interesting that there would be a quality control problem with the harddrives. The same hitachi drive going into tablets have also been in the ipod for some time now.
Don't laugh at me. This is just what I want to know.quote:Originally posted by bollar

Thank you.
I disassembled my broken iPod and what I found was a Toshiba 1.8" HDD (Apple's been using Toshiba drives for the main-line iPods for quite a while; the iPod mini may be using 1" hard drives from either Seagate or Hitachi, I have heard) with connectors on the narrow side. ThinkPad X40 and X41s use Hitachi 1.8" HDD with connectors on the long side.quote:Originally posted by jokerunm

They are not the same, however the comment still applies in that the 40GB 1.8" HDDs have been used in the X40 for quite some time.
You're right...the ipod Mini's are using Hitachi's 1 inch drive...and the ipods are using Toshiba's 1.8 inchers.quote:Originally posted by gloostik

My rep told me the hard drives were back ordered, but my gut was telling me it was a quality control issue as you mentioned.
You just confirmed my feeling. They are saying end of month but we shall see.
Better they be delayed and fixed than on time and broken, I say.
