I apologise if this seems like a foolish question, but why are there no widescreen notebook/laptop convertibles? Granted that tablets are prone to smaller sizes, is there something about the resolution that explains why there arent any widescreen tablets?

I think it has to do with adding the extra weight of the few inches of screen/digitizer/electronics/case. The main concepts of the tablet is portability and battery life, IMO, and a widescreen seems to defeat the purpose at this time. I know I don't want to hold 7 pound tablet while writing. There may also be issues with producing the digitizer at the different aspect ratios, but I am not sure of this.

Wide screen also defaced the paper look on tablet If supposes I to simulate the paper medium. The ratio on the current tablet are petty close to the real thing. if you wane to enjoy 16: 9 experience, you can try Window Media Player classic which can room to use of the whole screen in landscape mode.
