They don't go bad (except very rarely). More likely you'll lose it (or at least temporarily misplace one, which is why I keep a spare in the glove compartment of my car).

What is it that makes you have to replace the pen for your M1300 or M1400? I bought a 3 pack for one of my tablets and I've yet to get past the first pen. I've dropped mine, kicked them etc and they still work fine. Not much stylus wear yet either. I'm guessing they aren't waterproof, though.
