Default Hey, I'm about to be a college student, and I'm

Hey, I'm about to be a college student, and I'm looking at an r15 for classes and homework. I'm pretty sure the r15 and m4 have the same weight and the same screen, so I have some questions for students with an r15 or m4.
Has the weight or size been a problem?
How is the screen's viewing angle?
And how bad is outdoor glare and indoor glare from classroom lighting?

Any other thoughts from students would be appreciated. Thanks.

In addition to being a full-time government employee and full-time college student, I've had no problems using my Toshiba R15.

The weight isn't a problem as I normally use it in laptop mode on my desk or tablet mode on my leg.

The screen is great from all angles (that I use, anyway!) and I've rarely had a problem with glare inside or out.

Overall, I'm highly satisfied with my R15...I've had it since the end of April and have recently shifted to a paperless environment (for note and message taking, writing, etc.) and OneNote has seriously been a great tool for this.

I have an m4 and have been using it for my summer classes.

Weight and size are not a problem - I carry it in a laptop backback with heavy books - so the difference between a 6 lb tablet and a 4 lb tablet is not important.

If you sit directly under a light and have the screen pointed directly up at it there will be glare. This can be avoided by tilting the screen towards you a bit (put something under the far end of the machine) or it can be ignored. I usually ignore it.

The viewing angle is decent. People can see it when gathered around, but the colors and brightness will not be as good.

Sunlight makes the thing practically unusable. I have been known to sit outside and use it, but only in the shade and only with difficulty.

I'm starting my Junior year at the University of Washington (Bothell Campus) this fall, and plan on getting an M4 to use for my classes. I'm planning to go as paperless as is permissable, which I think will be an interesting experiment. Anyway, I'll post some of my impressions as soon as I have some to share.

I am excited about using my r15 at school this fall. I'm making sure I keep a paper notebook with me because some teacher may not be "tablet compliant". Is there a data base that lists which teachers are tablet compliant or not:D

Are you saying there are professors who won't let you use a laptop in their class?

Does anyone know what type of discount Toshiba offers for students? I tried to search but tablepcbuzz's search feature wasn't working....

    Anyone?

I think I exaggerated a bit. I think most every teacher allows PCs. Test scenarios where you need to physically hand in a notebook page might give you a problem. That is probably going to happen much more in high school. Just keep a backup notebook.

I asked around but I don't think toshiba offers student discounts, you could try calling them. I bought my r15 from mpsuperstore for 1480 including shipping.

    Rockjoa...

I go to a big State University and one Professor for History class told the student to shut off his PC in middle of lecture because he didn't "know if
the student is playing games or surfing the web or what"..

Which is completely BOGUS because most students sit there and DOODLE in their
    notebooks in his class...
Some people just dont know how to adapt when somehting new comes along.
    I call it "Xenotechnophobia" ... LOL :)

I'd be surprised if this happened with a Tablet PC in 'slate' mode. Much quieter (no keys) and visually less intrusive.

As for the rationale.... how odd? Unless the student is actually dstracting others by banging away noisily on the keyboard, I cannot fathom the objection.
