Default There are many different ways to transfer files

There are many different ways to transfer files from one computer to another. I have used a software product called NetOps for several years now and can you it is excellant. You install a guest and host on each computer and then you can configure it to connect in any direction. You can open a side by side tree of the files on each manchine, open a window to control the host machine, or open a window for chat. You can do this between machines with WiFi or over the internet. What I like is I have a script that automatically syncs files with one click and at set times. I sync my Outlook pst file so my desktop and tablet are always in sync. You can find out more about this software at: http://www.netop.com/

OK. So you want to transfer files, etc from one machine to another. Well, I have been using the USB 2.0 Link Adapter (CPQUSBUS) from Compaq that works great. You install the drivers on both machines, plug the special cable into each usb slot, click on the icon on each computer, and walla... you are able to work with the files from an explorer type view showing the contents of both computers. It works great! No worry about how large the files are, etc. It's similar to doing an FTP. This device is not very expensive for what it does. I also use it with my desktop & Motion when I want to back up files from my Motion. :D

I used Laplink for many years, which appears to be similiar to what you noted in your comment. But, as also noted it requires the machines to be linked via cable. With my NetOps it does does the same thing, explorer type window and more, without a cable. Plus the added benefit of being able to link via internet. I can't tell you how many times I was away and needed a file that was on my desktop.

If it's over the network why not just use file & printer sharing?

Enable file & printer sharing on the internet connection properties for both machines. Right-click the folder you want to share on box 1. On box 2 goto my network places, add network place, type in box1's address and sharename like: \\192.168.0.1\share

That's it. No extra software besides windows needed.
