Default I have a new Fujitsu ST5020 tablet and am learni

I have a new Fujitsu ST5020 tablet and am learning to use it. Today, I worked with Voice Recognition a bit, "training" it and trying it out. ("Weave me a cone, you cupid bat!") Not too bad but needs a little work -- probably a better mike or headset if I was really serious about it. Anyway...

A little Voice Recognition box replaced my cursor and damned if I did not have the hardest time getting rid of it! Unchecking "speech" in the TIP (cogwheel access) did not do it, even though it seemed that it should. I discovered that the "Command" and "Dictate" buttons were toggles, so toggling them off in some particular order got rid of the box (turned it back into the cursor).

Once, I used the (shifted) keyboard to hit F11 and that got rid of it. (I kept fiddling around, trying to find out exactly what turned it on and off, which is why it kept coming back to terrorize me.) But later, F11 did nothing.

I discovered that going to Control Panel and just bringing up the "Speech" dialogue box turned on the Voice Cursor.

Seems as though there should be a Function button or some other straightforward, simple way to turn the whole voice recognition thing ON or OFF, period. I always managed to turn it off eventually but it always took several changes and I could not nail down exactly what I had done. Is there a better way to turn this stuff on and off?

The fastest way I found to do this is by using the language toolbar on the Start bar. Right click an empty space on the Start bar and select toolbars then select Language bar. You will then be able to click the microphone icon to turn VR on and off.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks but, unfortunately, I cannot manage to make that happen. Maybe you can help. I right-click on the START bar and I get TOOLBARS as a menu item. Click it and get the following list: Address / Windows Media Player / Links / ITunes / Desktop / QuickLaunch / LINE / New ToolBar. OK, no "Language" there. When I click on "New Toolbar" I get a New ToolBar Dialogue Box. It is a directory tree with Desktop on top and My Documents / My Computer etc. below. What do I do with that? Beats me.

    To show the Language bar
    1. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
    2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
    3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
    4. Select the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, Isbeller. That worked. And I can make the language bar go away completely until I need it as an on/off switch. Odd that the switch under the TIP cogwheel doesn't do the trick though.

That's great! I found that information, BTW, by looking in the Help index on the Start menu.

    Good Luck!
