I was told by Lenovo that the ThinkPad Multi-Burner Plus Ultrabay Slim Drive will not work with the X41 tablet externally. Rather, it must be connected to a docking station. Is this accurate?

I was also told that the portable docking station is not compatible with the X41 Tablet. Is this also the case?

Yes, as far as I know, that requires the X4 Dock (which isn't really portable IMO):

They also make a USB2.0 Portable Multi-Burner Drive:

This drive can be plugged into the USB2.0 slot(s) of the tablet. You need external power to burn, though you can can read by powering the drive with both USB2.0 connections. I don't think the USB2.0 writes DVD+R/RW though (only "-"), though the former does both. It can read "+" though.

I'd recommend getting some of the other DVD burners that work with a powered USB port ... the prices that the computer manufacturers demand for these extra components are absurd.

Definitely don't get the dock. I'm looking at a LaCie drive so it will be portable enough to carry around with me whenever I need to throw it in the bag, but if anyone can suggest good external drives that would be great.
