I'm with Chris on this one. If they D0 release an 8-inch,I will want it, and I cannot have it, so Motion will be endangering my very soul.

    Heh.

Realistically, though, I would probably not be interested in the 8 inch unit. As I get older, my eyes have a hard time seeing these small screens. I don't even use my PDA anymore (the tablet replaced it fully.)

I am holding out for the full sized LE1600. (Hey, Purchasing Dept! Where's my PO?)

If it had something like 600 x 800 res, I wouldn´t be happy. I don´t even like 768 x 1024, but I can admit that 1024 x 1280 on an 8-inch screen might be a bit ridiculous, even for me.

    LOL.

This 8-inch can replace all those paper-based organizers since it's roughly the same size as one. It can be promoted to those old school paper organizer executives to switch. Look at a Tablet, it's the same size as a 8.5x11 sheet of paper but it weighs too much. A PDA? Well, I consider it the cellphone killer or the evolution of the cellphone but it's too small and too easy to chuck around. If this 8-inch motion can fly like a frisby then it's all good.

A stockpile of coasters everytime a CD-R goes bad.

I was "bashing" the form factor, not the "product".

again, look at past and current history. Overpriced machines for their respective size [Newton, OQO, etc...- try www.dynamism.com for examples]. If my 12" is 3k, and my PDA [3.5"] is 400, there is no way an 8" should be as much as it will be. Motion is not the only manufacturer projecting this small factor. Just as Tablets were/are over-priced initially, so will these... Mind you I would love one myself, but the manufacturers will overprice/under-pack these "initially"...

I agree with you about the form factor. It has been misused and abused.

I think you should wait for details before you shelve motion's "offering" though.

Hopefully someone will get it right eventually.

I think aboo is right that a mini will cost more because the market is mass producing in the 12/14/15" form size bigtime. I've never seen regular laptops cheaper, and with more functionality. A minitablet will be able to take advantage of a the mass produced chip technology, but not the disk drives and screens, so it will be expensive. Worth the price? Not to most, and an obvious point of comparison are the ultraportables aboo was talking about. It's much much much cheaper to lug around 6-8 pounds of laptop than 2-3 pounds. Why an iPod can have 60 gigs, but the Sony U71 still only has 30 makes no sense to me; why Toshiba can sell 2.5 pound computers for three times what they sell an 6.5 pound computer isn't because the demand is so great, but because it isn't so great--it's a specialized market, as tablets themselves seem to continue to be. But the market is the market, and unfortunately the technology I most desire seems to be at the high end.

BTW, I had one of those red ones jorobo points out, and it lost all my data everytime it got turned upside down. Very disappointing; hours to redo all that work. Over and over.

bluespapa: Sorry about your loss of data. Always make a backup of your data by taking a digital photo of the screen. lol
