Default So, while poking around my C; drive trying to fi

So, while poking around my C; drive trying to figure out why my disk is already half-full on a brand-new machine, I came across a directory called "SwSetup" which is over 5 gb in size. Might have something to do with it...

From the name and the contents, it seems to have something to do with the software that came pre-installed on the computer... or maybe not totally installed yet, who knows?

Does anyone know more about this directory and whether (or when) I can safely get rid of it (or, at least, move it all to my external drive)?

It looks like there is also a SwSetup on my "Application and driver recovery DVD" although it is not as large (only 3+ gb) and doesn't appear to include all the directories as are on my HD, although they appear to be mostly the same on quick inspection.)

I swear I'm starting to wish I had just re-installed the OS from scratch instead of trying to identify all the stuff that's been pre-loaded on the computer. It can't possibly need to be running 60 processes -- for over 300 mb of RAM out of the 512mb I have in the computer -- when the computer is idle... can it?

It is your instal of WindowsXP Tablet edition. If you add/remove anything or want to reinstall the system, it is where the defaults are. It should be the same as the one on your install/recovery CD, except it should also have other applications installed by default.

I wish my TC1100 only had 60 processes!

So, just to confirm for the not-as-computer-literate-as-she-thought-she-was... that means that once everything is installed I can move it all to my external drive unless and until I need it again, right?

You can if you need the space and aren't planning to install anything for a while, or you will allways be near your machine when installing things.
It is probably a good idea to back the folder up anyway.

I'd delete the folder and keep the setup files for each SW driver. Eventually a new SW Setup file will be released to update the old SW files.

I did a thorough comparison between what is available on the DVD software disk and what is contained in the SWsetup folder. The DVD contains a few more folders, so I deleted the SWsetup off of my HD. It did free up about 5 gigs on my hard drive. I'll let you know if it causes any issues.
