I'm going to buy the r15. It has less battery life, but the shock protection and OneNote software helped me make up my mind. I also trust toshiba more than acer.
I made a blog which goes into more detail about the r15

wondering to buy a tablet...
since I need the optical drive and can not afford too much, I find the most possibles are Acer c302 or Toshiba r15.
Any comments on these two?
thanks

Try this--look through the Toshiba forum and compare the number of complaints about Acer to the number of complaints about Acer. Either Acer owners are bigger whiners, or Toshiba puts together a better quality product. I only go the Acer, because at the time it was the best convertible with built in optical drive, and it had the larger screen. A year ago, Acer was the best choice IMO. If I were to buy today, I would get the Toshiba.
the thing is R15 is a new one
1. not much comment in the Toshiba forum
2. the problems may have not be reported
kilar, how is your feeling about c302?

He said 8 out of the 14 c300s had problems.
I like the C302, and it was the best choice for me at that time. I compared the number of complaints against the Toshiba M200 vs the Acer C302 and saw an equal number of complaints this time last year. I am glad I chose the C302. However, if you compare complaints against this year's C302 and this year's M200, you will see that there are more complaints against the C302 right now. Either Acer is getting worse, Toshiba is getting better, or Acer owners are more vocal. I checked this forum, the official Windows forum, and anything I could find via Google. From what I hear lately, Toshibas are a safer bet. I can only imagine the R15 is an improvement on the M200 in terms of engineering.quote:Originally posted by deanejjj

I bought the maxed out c303 from Acer in December and have been pretty happy with it so far. I too was trying to decide between Acer and Toshiba, and at the time the Toshiba had a 12" screen which I didn't want, so I went with the larger Acer screen. Going with the c303 also gave me 1 Gb of ram and a DVD burner which helped as well.
Now that Toshiba has a pretty much identical model to the c302 it's hard to choose. I know people that have the Toshiba tablets and have heard no complaints.
If you buy the Acer, you may want to think about ordering it from Costco.com, if you don't like it, you can return it to any Costco warehouse (you may want to check into returning computers but they are usually very good on returns).

Same here. Toshiba's seem to just have better build quality. Not that there's a huge amount wrong with my system, it's really just the paint and rubber feet coming off, but it doesn't look pretty.quote:Originally posted by kilar

Personally, I bought my Acer sight-unseen and was pleasantly suprised upon receiving it and like it much, much more five months later. I have experienced none of the complaints about the 300 series discussed here. It is easily the best laptop I have used.
I saw the R15 at CompUSA and was suprised how flimsy the hinge seemed and especially the flex in the keyboard, where there is none in the Acer, there's plenty in that Toshiba. I'm happy with my choice, maybe owner's bias is involved here.
At the least, do check out the R15 in person (which is easy) and an Acer 300 (not so easy) for your own preferences.
I am glad to see comments favoring the C300. It seems people normally only post negative comments on the C300.
